Bali March 18, 2026: The Ogoh-Ogoh parade, held on the eve of Nyepi.

Ogoh-Ogoh are giant hand built figures, often representing inner demons, negative forces, or social issues. They’re carried through the streets absorbing negativity with music, fire, shaking, and a lot of energy before being symbolically destroyed or removed. This tradition is meant to rid the island of bad vibes before Nyepi begins the next day.

Nyepi is the Balinese New observed by 24 hours of silence. Meaning no travel, no lights, no work, and no entertainment. Even the airport closes. You get detained if caught on the street. The demons are meant to think the island is empty 🤫 when actually everyone is reflecting quietly

One night of chaos, noise, and movement before an entire island goes still 😳

I caught the kittens eating my eggs and they were very upset when I took it away. The sound in the background is the Kulkul. It’s a rhythmic hollow drumming used by Bali locals at 6 am, noon, and 6 pm, to signify prayer or community activity 😁

The longer I travel solo, the more I learn to sit with and understand uncomfortable emotions that overtake me. Stressing about the future took up so much headspace and didn’t do anything productive for me. It’s far more liberating to embrace uncertainty and be excited for whatever’s next. Peace and joy propel you further and more effectively than stress ever could

George Town, Malaysia, is a multi-religious city with a diverse population, where Islam is the official religion alongside widespread practice of Buddhism, Hinduism, Taoism, and Christianity. Looking around I felt as though I couldn’t properly understand and experience this city without visiting the historic religious havens. I think I will go to a Hindu or Chinese Buddhist temple tomorrow 🕌🛕🧧
