Man what a way to kick off 2025! Started off with a few pre show beers @hartspub in the Rocks to see what they had on tap, a great selection of independent brews to be found. Then it was a quick journey on the light rail up to Horden Pavilion for Talib Kweli and The Roots. I’d seen Talib many years ago in London and that venue sucked so was great to catch him again on a decent stage and with a more energetic crowd too. He ran through a number of tracks from Blackstar/Reflection Eternal/Dangerdoom/Jaylib plus his solo joints….overall super dope set to kick off the evening. After a quick wizz break and refuelling of beers it was time for the main event. I’d seen The Roots at this same venue about 10 years ago with J5 and that was impressive back then. This time around was even better than the previous, especially with many joints in the set from the 90’s albums which are my personal favourites. Black Thought is the greatest MC of all time….that’s not even an argument anymore. The band killed it too. I would have shit myself if Dice Raw, Scratch & Rhazel the Godfather of Noise had of made special appearances…one can only dream.
Needed a dirty chicken burger from Mary’s to soak up some of the booze before jumping back on the light rail and BLine home.

1st of December equals day 1 of the Meighan & the offside trappe’s annual beer advent calendar. 5 members = 5 beers from each member to cover the entire 25 days of Xmas. This year we are kicking off with @alexoswise choice from local boys @brokenbaybrewingco and their core range IPA. Dig into the tape collection and pulled out Ice Cube’s “Lethal Injection” album. Not my favourite cube album but enough quality tracks to get a play from start to finish in the deck! 🎄
