Anyone else? I feel like I’m the only one.🏃🏻‍♂️😰

Most people don’t “quit sport” at one moment — they drift away through life stages. The first big drop-off happens in the teen years (around 14–17), especially for girls. Confidence, body image, fear of judgement, and fewer opportunities mean many young women leave organised sport before adulthood, while boys tend to stay involved slightly longer through school and early adulthood.

The second drop-off tends to hit in the late 20s to 40s. Careers ramp up, relationships deepen, kids arrive, time disappears. Men generally stay in amateur sport longer than women, but both sexes see sharp declines in team sports during this phase. Women often leave earlier due to pregnancy, childcare, and lack of flexible or welcoming adult sport environments.

After 55+, participation drops again — mostly due to injury, recovery time, health issues, or the belief that sport is “for the young.” But here’s the truth: people don’t stop because they can’t move — they stop because sport stops being built for them. When formats adapt (walking football, social leagues, modified competition), people keep playing — often for life.

The good news? You don’t have to follow that curve. Sport doesn’t end — it just needs to evolve. With the right training, structure, and expectations, you can stay active, competitive, and confident at any age. If you’re unsure how to adapt your training, return after time off, or keep that competitive edge without breaking your body, drop me a message — that’s exactly what I help people do: build bodies that keep playing, not quitting.
