LOOSE JOINTS returns to @movers.venue for an extended late edition with co-hosts @swingdash , to welcome special guest BRAWTHER @brawther

A fixture of the international underground house scene for two decades, Brawther’s history connects the biggest dots: a student of Chez Damier, one half of DUNGEON MEAT @dungeonmeat - alongside Tristan da Cunha, and a catalogue of productions released by legendary labels Balance, Cabinet, Secretsundaze and My Love Is Underground.

There’s some Nottingham history here too. In a Mixmag interview, Brawther cited a DiY party at The Bomb in 2001 as the night that properly switched him on to house music. In 2009, Loose Joints’ Alex made good on a promise to bring him back to Nottingham, putting Brawther on a MHYH Radio lineup at Moog alongside DiY’s Grace Sands and the much-missed, inspirational selector Simon DK. Since then, Brawther has gone on to play dancefloors around the world, with ongoing residencies at SlapFunk and Block9 at Glastonbury.

LOOSE JOINTS hosts ALEX TRASKA & ROB SOULFOOD rep the sound of the last five parties, digging through their extensive catalogues of deep house, NYC disco, Detroit, garage, and other assorted and unshazzamable vinyl gear for your feet / soul / Discogs wantlist.

RICH GROOVES joins the family for the first time for kick-off. Not to be missed.

Another extended late one at MOVERS, with the dancefloor sound beefed up accordingly.

The South West Coast Path is nearing its end, as it passes Weymouth and heads to Durdle Dor and Lulworth Cove and eventually its finish in Poole. Skipping the worst of the heatwave temperatures, this view at 6:15am looks towards Swyre Head dominates the Jurassic coastline ahead - the highest point on the isle of purbeck.

An out and back again hike from Ringstead to Durdle Dor for a swim. 8 Miles.

In the bag this weekend for @gilesesmith at @movers.venue Nottingham… raiding the NEEDS / @larsbartkuhn section of the collection. Three early chuggers from 1999-2001 in the early days of the label, plus a remix of the legendary Playin’ 4 The City.

We’re going to need a Pt2 and 3 to even scratch the surface here of one of the most genius producers of house music ever… but these three will fit just right to a dancefloor still doings its stretches. Unmissable deep house music…

🏊‍♂️📍Where is this legendary wild swimming spot?

If you’re after one of the best Derbyshire Peak District wild swimming spots, include it in this epic 35-mile, three-day hike, starting and finishing at a train station!

🏞️ DAY ONE:
Start at Hope train station and follow Derwent Edge, and continue North beyond the top of Howden Reservoir.

🌅 DAY TWO:
Climb to Alport Castles, before reaching the base of Blackden Brook via Alport Dale. Enjoy the swim, then feeling refreshed tackle the grade one scramble up to the top: WARNING this is majorly sketchy in parts especially with a full pack. Do not attempt in wet weather.

🍺 DAY THREE:
From Fairbrook Naze, following the path circumnavigating the Kinder Plateau, chancing upon one of many aircraft wrecks in the area, taking a break for coffee (and a much needed wash) at Kinder Downfall, before the final descent of Jacobs Ladder to finish in the pub!!

Scroll back two years and my grid is almost entirely wine. Changes to drinking and spending habits have limited extravagant purchases, but on holiday it’s a novelty to explore local wines.

There’s few wine stores in Lanzarote but @brunchi.shop had a bunch of local producers. This was the red, Listán Negro I picked up from @casa.althay 👌

Classic volcanic character; whack of minerals and charcoal, toasted popcorn, red cherry. Delicious. And not very extravagant at €25 a go.

Have a rosado listán negro lined up for later.

I’m doing it again. In 2023 I dropped the booze except very special occasions. I’ve never felt better than I did that year. Inevitably, thereafter, alcohol crept back into my life and fought with ambition at the weekends to do other things - either through being in the pub or recovering from it. It’s cliche as f&£k but yea the HANGOVER x HANGXIETY collab in your 40s are no joke!

So, back on the hills as often as possible. If you fancy linking up to explore, head to Scotland or the lakes, give me a shout. I’ll be back on the bike too… at least when the weather is warmer and dryer; I’m not a masochist.

Thank f&£k the @theangelmicrobrewery has Lucky Saint on draught now too. See you there, every fourth Sunday, for our @loosejointsdjs Sundays - our spiritual home and now in our 8th year there. ❤️

A moderately difficult 14 mile hike, starting at Hope Train Station, heading up Lose Hill, then along the great ridge taking in Back Tor, Mam Tor, Rushup Edge then on to Brown Knoll at the top of the Hope Valley. Continuing down Jacobs Ladder, and on to the Nags Head, Edale.

Snow day hike with waist-deep snow drifts - and yes I fell into a few. A usually busy route up Grindsbrook Clough and across Kinder Scout to Jacobs Ladder, starting and finishing in #Edale, 8.5miles. Today it was nearly deserted, especially as the heavy snow began to fall.

En route you always have to say hello to baby Jesus, and the chickens at @upperboothfarm

The thing about climbing mountains is the time for reflection feels infinite. Your physical needs actually become very simple, even if the effort to meet them is extreme. The result of this is that your mind has time to wander or unravel, because the complexities and minutiae of a western lifestyle are on hold.

Heading home from this journey I’ve been somewhat emotional about it; reflecting on the world, the good people of it, and our role being those people.

Flying home to pictures in the news of the latest escalation in violence, of human rights being trounced, and leaders saying nothing because “politics” is heartbreaking.

Do the best you can. Because if we all do, it just might be enough, eventually. ❤️❤️ by @alextraska
