Back at my alma mater this weekend for the opening of the Holle Center, as a founding Advisory Board Member! 💫

It was an honor to cut the ribbon alongside Inaugural Holle Chair & Distinguished Professor Robin Boylorn as we publicly authored a new chapter for storytelling.

A year ago, our board met in Chicago to strategically map the center from concrete to complete. We were called to steward the communication college’s largest gift to date — $10 million graciously given by the Holle Family Foundation.

This brilliant board and our leader, Dr. Boylorn, remind me of what it looks like to dream freely and think deeply, constantly pushing the boundaries of what storytelling can achieve.

As we cut the ribbon on Tuesday, we tied a bow on the promise of keeping creativity and collaboration at home within these walls. taken in The University of Alabama by @alexusmcumbie

After 6 years of leading @blackednola’s individual donor strategy — here’s what i’ve learned as their strategist:

1. Only compelling stories move everyday people to every month giving. Invest and test market research that tells you not just what donors need to hear, but what donors care to hear.

2. A consistent donor who gives a little, is just as important as the inconsistent donor who gives one time.

3. Let people know how to support you outside of donating money. Oftentimes, people are willing to give things (time, resources, connections) that save you the money that you plan to spend on those things.

If your nonprofit, company, or biz needs a more creative way to fundraise because the “usual” has the dollars plateauing — let’s connect. taken in New Orleans, Louisiana by @alexusmcumbie

Closing out a busy but successful work season: San Francisco (2x), Raleigh, Phoenix, New Orleans and back to Chicago. This work truly is a marathon, not a sprint! That’s 6 campaigns in 6 weeks with more than 3 million dollars raised through thoughtful speechwriting, creative direction, and messaging support. Thankful to be trusted to steward stories forward.

I can’t count how many times someone has told me that @allysonfelix and I are twins. We laughed about this! I’ll let Instagram decide.

Lol, but we were all smiles after a successful Unleashed fundraising event with the Women’s Foundation of Alabama, where I had the opportunity to lead comms - from executive speechwriting to branding + graphic design, program video production, & more! So much fun getting to creatively direct the evening for a decorated olympian & my sorority sister.

The house was packed for an evening of power and philanthropy. Same time next year? The 30th will be the place to be. ✨ #WFAUnleashed by @alexusmcumbie

No matter where I am in the world working, I always let the room know that I’m a proud Alabamian. And this is because I can point back with pride at the many brilliant leaders driving equitable change in this state.

Kimberly L. Jackson, the President & CEO of @womensfdnal, is exactly the leader this moment calls for: poised, visionary, and grounded in the kind of data-driven strategy that drives real impact.

I’m incredibly thankful for the opportunity to help usher in this new chapter of philanthropy with an organization I deeply love, both as an advisor on communications and storytelling, and as a Women’s Policy Institute Fellow.

With more than $9 million in strategic investments, I’ve experienced firsthand how this philanthropic engine powers progress for women across Alabama, in ways that are felt today and will continue to be felt in the future. by @alexusmcumbie

@debranelson602 — I think we make a good team!

It was a good time spent in Knoxville, TN, co-leading a digital networking workshop with Debra Nelson for graduate chapter presidents in @akasoutheastern ✨✨

In a world changing every day with technology, we explored how to use social media intentionally and create digital business cards to ensure they can show up ready in every room, online and off.

My portion walked participants through creating their own digital business cards, then left them with a challenge: use them before the weekend was over. In a space filled with 4500+ members, there’s no better time to put strategy into action.

Honored is an understatement.

This weekend, I had the incredible privilege of curating a physical and visual exhibit in honor of Vivian Malone Jones, the first Black graduate of the University of Alabama, on the 60th anniversary of her historic graduation.

Debuted during the 3rd Annual Malone Awards at the Birmingham Museum of Art, the exhibit is a labor of love and legacy, and includes a few “never-before-seen” artifacts generously loaned by the Malone family. Curating this tribute, from graphic design to archival research to writing, meant carefully crafting the way her story is visually and historically remembered.

For those who couldn’t be there in person, the exhibit is available for viewing online below!

🔗: Check it out by clicking the link in my bio.

I’m grateful to play a small role in honoring the path she paved, and to be able to present this to her family and the audience during the award ceremony. #VivianMalone #VivianMaloneJones #TheUniversityofAlabama #UA #Alabama by @alexusmcumbie

This Founders’ Day, I’m reflecting on the mound of courage Nine women held when they dared to see the world, not for what it was, but for what it could be. Here’s to 117 years of service and sisterhood with @akasorority1908 💕💚 by @alexusmcumbie
