📍 Guatapé — Colombia turned up the colours 🇨🇴

A day of colourful streets, lake views, boat rides and climbing Piedra del Peñol for one of the best panoramas around Medellín.

Add some great company and this easily became one of the most fun day trips of the whole journey.

Four days, and somehow Medellín already felt like a place I’d come back to.

📍 Blumenau — German Brazil, but in the big city 🇩🇪🇧🇷

Second stop of our Easter roadtrip from Floripa: Blumenau.

A city full of German names, half-timbered facades, beer halls, Vila Germânica and lots of German aesthetics to make you briefly forget you’re still in Brazil - just that most people can’t speak German. 🥲

We spent the day exploring, eating, drinking and continuing what had already become a ridiculously fun boys trip.

And then there was the Apfelstrudel.

As an Austrian, I can forgive a lot when travelling.

That one was a delicious crime though, @bwvdhelm. 😂

Blumenau was definitely one of those places where German heritage, Brazilian culture and pure kitsch somehow work well together.

📍 Pomerode — Germany in the Jungle 🇧🇷🇩🇪

Throwback to earlier this year and one of those trips that became special mainly because of the people.

What started as an Easter roadtrip from Floripa to “the most German city in Brazil” turned into an absolutely unforgettable boys trip with Bob, Luis and Dominic. 🥳

German villages in the middle of Santa Catarina, Easter Kitsch, chocolate, roadtrip fun, endless jokes and just ridiculously good vibes.

One of my favourite things about travelling is how quickly complete strangers can turn into great friends — and this weekend was the perfect example.

🇧🇷 Floripa kept delivering through my month there

For a few weeks, travelling started to feel almost like normal life again. 🇧🇷

After months of buses, hiking, changing beds and constantly moving on, Floripa gave me something I had missed: a routine.

I found a wonderfully old-fashioned little gym around the corner, finally got back into proper weightlifting,

had time to work on my projects

and discovered Floripa’s beach volleyball community, where I played Beachvolleyball - plenty of Beachvolleyball. 🏐🤩

Playing several times a week quickly became one of the highlights of my stay.

Through volleyball, I met plenty of wonderful Brazilian and international people. 🫶🏻

And Floripa made meeting people ridiculously easy. Hiking, surfing, dancing, board games, art… there seemed to be a social group for basically everything.

For a month, I had a base again:

work, train, meet friends, play volleyball, go to the beach, repeat.

Two fantastic hikes. Two ridiculously blue rivers. And one hitchhiking adventure in between. 💙🏔️

From the wild waters of Futaleufú in Chile to the turquoise Río Azul in Argentina. Just my backpacks, a thumb out, and a little faith in getting there somehow.
