Right after I won my GRAMMY® in 2024, a Greek journalist who reached out for an interview told me something wild: I’m the only one born in Greece to ever win a GRAMMY.
🇬🇷
I said, “That can’t be right—what about giants like Vangelis, Theodorakis, Yanni?”
🇬🇷
He replied, “Vangelis won an Oscar. All three have been nominated for a GRAMMY. None have won. You’re the first.”
🇬🇷
Still mind-blown. Honored beyond words.

Greece scored the cover of LIFE magazine in Fall 1940 thanks to their bravery shown in WWII.

In the early days of the war, the Allied powers were desperate for good news, and that’s when Greece answered the call.

By the Autumn of 1940, Germany and the Axis Powers had dealt several major blows to the Allied resistance. In September 1939, Poland was conquered in just five weeks. Between April and June 1940, Denmark fell in a single day, and Norway bowed after two months of fighting.

Then, in a stunning turn of events, France collapsed to the German Blitzkrieg after just six weeks. Soon after this, Greece was given an ultimatum by Axis-aligned Italy: surrender now, or prepare for an invasion.

Today, “Όχι!” day is celebrated to commemorate the bravery shown by Greek Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas in his curt response: “Όχι!” (No!)

The ensuing invasion failed spectacularly for Italy, who were pushed back deep into Albania when the Greeks counterattacked, prolonging the campaign by several months. Even when Germany was forced to intervene, strong resistance continued in Crete, and the free world looked on and took heart in beholding Greece’s courage.

As a result, the Greek Evzone made the front cover of Time Magazine in 1940, spreading the news of Greece’s resistance far and wide. It was the first piece of good news for the Allied forces since the outbreak of WWII, and it proved pivotal in the outcome of the entire war, since Germany was delayed in their invasion of Russia by five crucial weeks.

Somebody please tell @runkusinno to stop arguing with me. 😂

We both agree that he released the best reggae album of the year, so I’m not sure what exactly we’re debating. 🤷🏽‍♂️

SUPERNOVA is a cutting-edge masterpiece. Forward-thinking, innovative, and a serious contribution to the evolution of reggae.

Case closed. Nothing else to discuss. 🎶🇯🇲

THINGS WE NOTICED DURING THE RECENT FOR YOUR GRAMMY® CONSIDERATION CAMPAIGNS

…and what we recommend you DON’T do:

1. DON’T use AI to pretend you listened to someone’s album.

It’s surprisingly easy to spot.

Especially when an artist or industry professional has multiple projects being promoted, and suddenly receives several “personal” responses that all sound remarkably similar, just with a few details changed based on whatever AI found about each project.

AI can be a great tool. But if you’re going to reach out to someone about their music, actually listen to the music.

2. DON’T unsubscribe from someone’s FYC email list while expecting them to remain on yours.

Yes, we notice.

When you unsubscribe from someone’s FYC communications, the sender is notified that you opted out. And when that happens during an already incredibly crowded voting period, you may have just eliminated one of the opportunities for that person to listen to your project.

FYC is a two-way street.

Be professional. Be respectful. Support the people who support you.

BOMBOCLAAT! 🇯🇲😂

As the producer of Spice’s new album, my responsibilities include food runs, late-night gas station runs (Red Bull, Magnum Tonic Wine & Lays potato chips), and, of course, filming these three while they are catching vibes! 😂🎥

The glamorous life of a music producer… 🎶🇯🇲
