Four different lives. One Master of Psychotherapy program.

There’s no one-size-fits-all path to psychotherapy, and our MAP students are proof of that! From balancing work and family to pursuing new goals and building on past experience, everyone brings something unique to the program.

👀 Follow along for a glimpse into a day in the lives of four MAP students and see how different paths can lead to the same goal.

Could you see yourself in MAP?

Wondering if you’re the right fit for our Master of Psychotherapy program? 👀

Whether you’re coming from psychology, social work or a related field, returning to school after time in the workforce, or taking a less traditional path, we’re answering your questions about the type of applicants we’re looking for.

As Fall Study Week approaches, it’s a good reminder that studying more doesn’t always mean studying better 📚

New research by Algoma University faculty member Dr. Ammar Almustafa, published in “Psychology International”, explores the relationship between study engagement, studyholism and university adaptation.

Drawing on data from 336 university students, the study found that while study engagement was associated with better university adaptation, studyholism, or compulsive studying, was linked to poorer personal-emotional adaptation.

The takeaway? How we approach our studies matters just as much as how much time we spend studying. So as you prepare for exams and assignments this Fall Study Week, remember to make time to take care of yourself, too. 💙

Some stories really do come full circle. 💙

In 2008, Algoma University celebrated its first day of classes as an independent university by visiting the hospital and welcoming the babies born that day with a graduation cap, an Algoma U bib and a little something to start their journey.

One of those babies is now an Algoma U student. 🎓

18 years later, she’s traded in her baby bib for an Algoma U student ID! by @algomau

Throughout the day, the Seven Grandfather Teachings were reflected in the people, conversations, and experiences that reminded us of the importance of carrying these teachings forward, not just today, but every day.

Nibwaakaawin | Wisdom
Zaagidiwin | Love
Mnaadendimowin | Respect
Aakodewewin | Bravery
Gwekwaadiziwin | Honesty
Dibadendizawin | Humility
Debwewin | Truth

May we continue to learn, listen, reflect, and honour the truths of the past while working toward a future grounded in reconciliation. by @algomau
