The Bugs•The Bugs is a high-production editorial built to translate the aesthetic of insects and nature into fashion and beauty. Two models were fitted with custom made clothing for this specific concept, intricate insect inspired makeup, and handcrafted headpieces that referenced textures and forms in nature. Despite being a shoot captured in a studio, a set was constructed to emulate nature. Every detail in this project was intentional, all to capture the feeling and presence of nature colliding with editorial production. This shoot was by far the most involved, requiring a large team, a fully decorated set, art direction, make-up, and styling. The Dons •The Dons is a fashion editorial rooted in visual narrative about power, and subverting the expectations of who gets to wear it. Inspired by the pop culture visual language of italian-american mob films of the 1990s with pinstripe suits, leather gloves, cigars, and briefcases. the references are unmistakable. This era of film showcased men in sharp suits who were stoic, confident, and powerful. This kind of imagery has always centered on men. Here, it doesn't.This project explores the more clean and commercial production of an editorial campaign. The posing is both controlled and yet powered, the lighting is able to maintain seriousness while still being visually interesting. The Obscura•The Obscura is where the editorial form breaks open. This concept is shot entirely underwater, where grunge editorial is built on contrasted, deep, and saturated blues/greens against blown highlights. The figure becomes refracted, warping through the water as it moves towards texture and shape. Easily the most experimental shoot of the collection, this project explores the abstraction in the fashion editorial production. In contrast to The Bugs which was constructed or The Dons which was composed, the obscura was abstracted. The water is still the environment, but the lights begin to interact with the water and plastic lining to create an atmosphere that breaks apart the figure.
