I’m working through a new series of drawings, thinking about how a medical scan offers one form of knowledge, translating the body into measurable data. With these drawings, I’m looking at how touch, pressure, and the physical act of drawing can complicate that translation. To create an image that carries lived experience. Perhaps pressing the body back onto the drawing is one way of doing that. by @ali_prosch

What is lost when a body is translated into data?

Developing a series of drawings that begin with MRI and X-ray scans from three generations of women in my family: my mother, myself, and my daughter.

Here are a few fragments from the studio.

More soon 🖤

Still buzzing from the LA River Festival on Sunday! It was such a special day and I’m incredibly grateful to Ryan @noonprojects and everyone at @lariverarts for the opportunity!! Thank you so much. You all nailed it!!

more info about the work here:

The Body Is a River (for Susan Griffin) pulls from drawings that layer medical scans of my mother, myself, and my daughter. The imagery shifts between body and map, where veins, river channels, tributaries, and anatomical pathways share a visual language.

The work questions the reduction of the body to data, re-centering lived experience as a form of knowledge that can exceed empirical measurement. This idea also extends to the LA landscape, where mapping, management, and development can shape how restoration is imagined.

The title draws from Susan Griffin’s Woman and Nature: The Roaring Inside Her, which frames body and land as intimate, historical, and living. Both hold memory. Both register violence. Both become sites of repair.

For River Assembly, the flag links personal and inherited experience to ecological systems of flow, damage, and renewal. taken in Lewis MacAdams Riverfront Park by @ali_prosch

Excited to share the work I created with Build Big at The Infinite School! I started this class the same day I marked three years in remission, so this exhibition feels especially meaningful to share. Here’s a little bit I wrote about the piece…

Untitled (bear-legged rhyton w/ large ring handle) draws from ancient rhyton vessels, merging references to the body, animal forms, and ceremonial objects into a large-scale ceramic sculpture. Elevated on bear-like legs and anchored by an oversized ring handle, the vessel becomes a site of care and transformation: collecting water for birds, holding warmth for reptiles, and setting space for an altar of candles, stones, and incense. Designed to live outdoors, the sculpture shifts over time as water, dirt, and plant material slowly alter its surface into a living patina. As the work gathers traces of its surroundings, it enters into an ongoing relationship with the local ecology, extending my interest in systems of care, interdependence, and the garden as a site of resistance.

Hope to see you irl! This Saturday @theinfinite.school 4-8pm 🖤 by @ali_prosch

Ali Prosch, our resident candle witch, returns with a fresh batch of colors, scents, and sizes. For Plant Sale, she creates candles and tinctures that extend  her studio practice shaped by repetition, ritual, and the invisible labor of care.

In the garden, care takes shape through small, intentional gestures: watering dry soil, composing garden beds, pruning overgrowth, warding off pests, returning season after season. These systems of care move through cycles of growth, decay, and repair that interrupt the glossy overload and speed of daily life. Drawing attention back to our senses.

Each candle and tincture moves through a ritual of tending where slowness becomes a quiet form of resistance.

Seems like a good time to share some of the witchy objects I make, though honestly I’m pretty much like this year- round.

A gothy wax freak always thinking about the body; its limits and thresholds. how we test the boundaries with touch. How does control, pressure, and release become small acts of discovery.

Gearing up to make another round of Friendship Bracelets for Trees. I’m imagining these pieces—made by circles of kids, families, and friends—scattered through parks, schoolyards, sidewalks, and neighborhoods across L.A. My hope is that this project grows outward, woven by many hands, becoming a quiet but visible network of care.
