APP Columbus Recap 🥇🥈🥈
APP Columbus — that was a good one.
Jaime Oncins and I battled our way to GOLD in Senior Mixed 🥇 and Angela Simon and I came away with SILVER in Senior Women’s Doubles 🥈.
The senior draws may have been small, but they were absolutely stacked. No easy matches, no freebies, and I LOVE seeing the talent and level of play continuing to rise. Some seriously good pickleball and some seriously fun battles out there.
A huge thank you to The James at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center for sponsoring the event and helping make the weekend possible. Pretty special to compete at an event backed by an organization doing such important work.
Then I got to swap player mode for coach mode and coach Angela through her 3.5/4.0 doubles draw.
She and Carrie took SILVER 🥈 — upgrading last year’s bronze, so apparently we’re trending in the right direction. 😂
It was also so good catching up with our good friends Alli and Ike — even if they had the audacity to beat Angela and Carrie in the final. Apparently friendship has boundaries. 😂
Was coaching Angela fun? Yes.
Was it possibly more stressful than playing my own matches? Also yes.
But I love that we get to do this together — compete, coach, travel, celebrate the wins, learn from the losses and occasionally test the strength of our relationship from opposite sides of a pickleball fence. 😂
Sadly, no conservation or wildlife detours on this trip. Angela has to head back and take care of some business, while I’m staying in Columbus for a few more days to teach some clinics before jumping straight back into competition mode for MLP/CSP this coming weekend.
So Columbus… apparently I live here now. 😂
Great battles. Great people. Great weekend.
And we’re not done yet. 💛

Thank you to the APP Tour all the refs and volunteers who work tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen.

And of course my sponsors for believing in me, this sport and this journey. Bc without you it would not be possible!!!

There’s a version of every woman on this list who almost didn’t start. Too old, she thought. Too late, she thought. Wrong body, wrong knees, wrong decade.
She started anyway.
The 40+ women in our Academy aren’t proving anything to the girls half their age. They’re proving something to the version of themselves who almost didn’t show up.
If you’re still asking whether it’s too late, that’s your answer.

☀️ What a fantastic morning with this amazing crew at the Middletown Pickleball Association! 💙
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out ready to learn, laugh, and level up! We worked on serving and receiving skills, stayed cool in the shade, kept hydrated, and most importantly—had a blast together! 💦😄
There’s nothing better than improving your game while making new friends and being part of such an awesome pickleball community. ❤️🏓
🏆 Big congratulations to Cecelia for winning the Closest-to-the-Pin Challenge! 🎯 And a shout-out to Michelle for a very close second! 😊🏓
We missed Allison Rieder today and can’t wait to have her back with us next week! 💕
