POSTS STORIES REELS

Paul Hazelton & Alice Herrick are thrilled to announce their much-anticipated group show…

SPACE
Liminal Gallery, 34 Fort Hill, Margate, CT9 1HD
6-28 November 2026
PV: Saturday 7 November 5-7pm
Opening times: Thurs-Sat 12-5pm or by appointment

SPACE unites a constellation of local and international artists in a tiny space that presents infinite possibilities. The exhibition includes a hologram, photography, sculpture, painting and poetry, with the curators Paul Hazelton & Alice Herrick showing their own work alongside Louise Beer, Ben Caro & Kat Cutler-MacKenzie, Cedric Christie, Poppy Cockburn, Pippa Darbyshire, Deborah Grice, Marcelle Hanselaar, Vivien Lee, Julia Maddison, Michael Petry, Thelma Speirs, David Spero, Yuri Suzuki and Wenyon & Gamble.

Accentuated by the scale of Liminal, our aim for this exhibition is to show that artists, through their practice, shift our perceptions of space, with the gallery thus becoming a lens to focus in closely on each artist’s vision.

Situated opposite Turner Contemporary, Liminal Gallery might be small in comparison, yet in scope we believe SPACE can be defined by something wholly more immeasurable.

Paul Hazelton and Alice Herrick are Margate based artists and curators and have been collaborating on exhibitions and events locally and in London since 2009.

‘We are our memory’ 8-18 October @contemporary_kent_artists @thehorsebridge Whitstable

I was delighted to be asked to help select work by Kent based artists this year and once more oversee the installation of the show. It’s always an exciting challenge curating a mixed media group show in an unfamiliar space, but the pleasure of finding rhythms and relationships between the works and presenting artists whose work I know alongside new discoveries is a thrill and an honour.

Congratulations to all the artists!

Introducing our guest curators for our upcoming exhibition in collaboration with @charlieevaristoboyce

Swipe to learn about each curator:

Charlie Evaristo-Boyce @charlieevaristoboyce

I’ve been a full-time artist based in Margate for over 12 years. I started with a studio/shop in 2014, ran that for six years, then moved to a studio practice and online store during lockdown. About a year and a half ago I opened my current gallery and studio space in Margate Old Town, where I sell my own work while continuing to make new pieces.

My practice has always been rooted in printmaking, but over the last year, especially through Turps Margate, I’ve pushed myself further into painting and mixed media. I still use screen printing, but now I combine it with hand-painted marks, layering, and more experimental surfaces. The work sits somewhere between print, painting and collage.

Recurring themes are heritage, place and cultural mixing. I often draw on my Nigerian background, which I didn’t have much exposure to growing up in Thanet. I’m also interested in how British culture itself is a mash-up of other cultures, so travel, found graphics, photography and images from different places regularly feed into the work.

About the gallery and curation

The gallery has mostly been a space to show and sell my own work, with the occasional collaboration or producing an artist’s print edition for the website. For Tides I’m clearing everything out and turning it into a proper blank gallery for other artists. I’m looking forward to using the space, my experience of selling art, and my network to give other people a platform.

When I’m looking at work I’m drawn to impact, colour, detail and layering. I like crisp lines as much as abstract marks. I’m more interested in how something works as an image than in the specific process behind it. With Tides I’m especially curious to see how artists interpret the theme in their own way, the less obvious connections and personal stories are often the most interesting.
