The Belfast Marathon - Number 4 💓

This one was different. Not because it went well, actually the complete opposite. But as a result I’ve learnt more than I ever could.

After Cyprus I jumped into an intense 7 week training block for Belfast. I’ll be brutally honestly, I’ve been physically and mentally exhausted - but I made myself the promise I would see a back to back marathon training block through, all with the hopes it would pay off in Belfast.

On reflection, I completely lost myself. All I’ve been doing for the last 7 weeks is existing, working and training. Today is the first day in a very long time I’ve been able to breathe, be calm, present and enjoy the day.

The result? I fell apart. I hit an unrecoverable wall at 10k and fought the remaining 32. I hated every single second of it after 25 weeks of training.

Strangely, I am actually incredibly grateful for it. It’s showed me how loved I truly am, and how lucky I am to have such beautiful and amazing friends around me.

I’ve often felt alone with running but this year has been different. I’ve had David in my corner every single day supporting me, and my friends alongside me through it all. It’s been really really hard, but also really special.

Not only that, while in the trenches, I had the love of my life run me the final 5k (in jeans), had my best friend surprise me and come the whole way out to Belfast for half a literal day and my other closest friends come support me. All cycling round Belfast to catch snippets of me crying the whole way round the city. No time could ever come close to that. I feel so incredibly loved and beyond grateful. Thank you all of you.

Even the strangers reminded me why I love this sport - someone stopping to fix my running belt which broke 4k in, others offering their fuel and words of encouragement when I needed it most.

On one of my toughest days and almost quiting at 16k, I still matched my Paris time. So if this is what I can do when everything goes wrong… I’m excited to see what happens when it all clicks. I’m sure it’s going to be amazing. Ready for the comeback.

Here to learning to rest, doing less and prioritising my circle. taken in Belfast by @alicehsc
