🌆 INTRODUCING: SOBBIN’ WOMEN

In the golden era of MGM’s Hollywood, the husband and wife Screenwriting duo behind a new musical are failing to get the greenlight. Thrown into crisis when they are forced to work with an up-and-coming free-spirited female writer, ‘Sobbin’ Women’ is a darkly funny new play about what it means to be a woman in a foregone age and the consequences of putting the professional before the personal.

ALSO LOOK OUT FOR: Performance artist, activist, director, and everything in between – Lois Weaver of Split Britches will be hosting a post-show conversation about making queer and feminist performance. Come and join us after the show, and make a night of it!

Written by Molly May Gorman @mollymaygorman
Directed by Alice Harding @alicerharding
Produced by Fleur Simpson @fleursimpson

Backstage Theatre, Mountview
Fri 29 May, 2pm + 7pm
Tickets £5-7 via link in bio

❗️Booking now open ❗️

Come and join us on 10th Feb for two workshops run by the co-directors of The Rehearsal Room @alicerharding and @zfktyoung.

10:00-13:00 FREEING THE MIND AND BODY (Alice Harding) will be an energetic and playful workshop where we will explore how ideas around ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ can impede our work as performers; by utilising games and exercises from various practitioners, including Lecoq, Maria Knebel and more, discover how play can free you as an actor and eliminate any notions of ‘failure,’ and ultimately inspire individual and group creativity.

15:00-18:00 WORDS AS WEAPONS; SCENE WORK (Zoë Templeman-Young)
Do you find yourself getting in your head too much? Playing a guessing game of what the director/casting director/producer wants to see? In this workshop, the focus will be on the text, and your fellow actor, and that’s it. The work will be about tactics; what your character wants, how they try and get what they want, and what’s at stake if they don’t get it. Zoë uses LABAN efforts and imaginative circumstances to get actors to dig deeper, so that intellectual thought goes out the window and intuition and gut reflexes come into play. taken in London, United Kingdom by @alicerharding
