What an amazing evening! Thank you everyone who supported us and came out to celebrate the premier of Geri Atrick 4 Mayor, our little webseries on @bell BellfibeTV1. Thank you to Woodys for hosting and Jimmy at @ogradysonchurch for generously providing food. Making this show was such an incredibly positive experience for me. We shot it in 5 days in North Bay in freezing temperatures - I literally could not feel my toes at one point but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. They are a very dedicated, professional and warm group of film makers in North Bay - they treated us so well. And the actors I had the opportunity to work with were so supportive of each other. The message of Geri Atrick 4 Mayor is that we ALL deserve to be represented by our elected officials and marginalized communities especially. I'm not religious but I have always believed that we should treat others how we ourselves wish to be treated - with respect. Wouldn't the world be better if we did that? 💖 special shoutout to our inspired writers: @dasenpearce and @aliceroselaughs and of course the original Geri Atrick who had the vision for this:Jay Mack! taken in Woody's on church by @aliceroselaughs

"It is not my mind that is troubled"

Huge news! This October, I'll be following up Wednesday's screening of AUDITION with the brilliantly unsettling horror masterpiece CAT PEOPLE. The next selection in my @untucked_films series at @paradiseonbloor . We're going from kiri-kiri-kiri to here-kitty-kitty.

Over the last few selections we've been unraveling a thread of body horror-slash-femme fatale movies (Crash, Titane, and Audition), brings us to the ball of yarn that is the ultimate she-did-nothing-wrong™️ movie. A psychosexual tale of repression and generational trauma. taken in Paradise by @aliceroselaughs

Watched OBSESSION again and I couldn't help but see the parallels in AUDITION. Aoyama was the OG incel.

Btw, I'm screening AUDITION next Wednesday, August 12th at @paradiseonbloor . Come see for yourself why this is one of my fave horror films, and why it's actually super #trans taken in Paradise by @aliceroselaughs

What movie or TV couple makes you want to believe in straight people?

Mark Ruffalo and Jennifer Garner are one of a very few heteronormative couples I can put my whole heart into. Not only because I was a 13 year old Matt Flamhaff who dreamed of being a 30 year old Jenna Rink. Not only because I recently watched Task and seeing Mark's character get excited about a summer tanager did it for me. But kinda because those things.

Come cheer on these two cuties across the eras in @holdup_films upcoming screening of 13 GOING ON 30!

It's gay book girl summer. Here are 3 books by LGBTQ+ authors that I'll be diving into.

Starting with YR DEAD by Sam Sax. I saw this on a book list from Anthony Jeselnik, who made it sound so intriguing I had to get it. It opens with the protagonist, a young Jewish queer setting themself on fire in protest, and the whole book takes place in the last moments of their life. It's non-linear, reflective, and darkly funny at times. Sax is a poet, and much of this book reads as poetry.

Next I'm revisiting a favourite that I've read a handful of times. Kenyan author and journalist Binyavanga Wainaina's colourful memoir, One Day I Will Write About This Place, reflects on the writer's life growing up in Kenya. Childhood events told in the voice of a child, rhythmic and stream-of-conscious - memories that dance off the page. It gives an intimate portrayal of East-African culture and politics during a tumultuous era. His "lost chapter" where he comes out publicly as a gay man, originally omitted from first publications, provides so much context for the rest of the book. It's truly brilliant!

And finally, Dayspring by Anthony Oliveira. I read Anne Carson's Autobiography of Red in university, and I've been chasing that high ever since. So I took it as a sign that Carson is named in the liner notes as a prerequisite to the author. But a few pages in, and it felt like freebasing a drug I had only ever microdosed. A queer, contemporary retelling of holy tales, reframing gospels of love, and reclaiming biblical parables in tandem with memoir and prose. This book exists in defiance of time and genre.

I highly recommend checking out any of these books this Pride. Find them at your local bookstore, request them from your library, or DM me and I'll lend you my copy some time. by @aliceroselaughs

Omfg this movie!!!

I absolutely cannot wait to screen TITANE tomorrow night at @paradiseonbloor . There's so much movie in this movie I don't even know where to start. It's trans AF. It's transhumanist AF. It's a feminist, pro-choice body horror that's horny and gross and violent and a weirdly heartwarming tale of acceptance and chosen family. And it's exactly an @untucked_films film.

Come to this screening. Tomorrow night. Grab a *beautiful* poster by @tessreid and a drink from the bar and buckle in you little weirdo. Vroom vroom. taken in Paradise by @aliceroselaughs
