a run in the canyon

chased chris, erin, ryan, and alicia on a “short” run in the grand canyon. started on the bright angel trail, hoped on the tonto, then descended on south kaibab to the river, and finished with going up south kaibab to the south rim.

i get why ryan calls it the sanctuary, it’s a special place with so much energy and beauty. it was chris and i’s first time in the canyon, safe to say we’ll be back.

An absolute legend in our sport, Alicia and I caught up to chat all about her 2025 season; reflecting on the ups & downs after suffering from excruciating injury in 2024.

We also did a good amount of riffing on the sport, the state of short trail, where she thinks the sport is headed and more. We also went deep into the past to talk about the pro scene in the 2014 - 2018 time frame. We talked about what it was like being on one of Nike’s first trail team, joining the Hoka team in 2017 and more.

A little trot to soak in some of the beauty of the Zegama course! I first came to Zegama six years ago and was shut down by a terrible illness. This year I can’t wait to give this mythical course and the crazy amazing Basque fans 110%!

This sport really is the best! 🥹💛

Navigating training and racing after multiple pregnancies and navigating love after the loss of a spouse.

It was pleasure to sit down and chat with @badboyrunningpodcast about both of these realms of my life as well as lots of random bits mixed in ☺️ I feel pretty tentative and awkward to open up about some of these things but Jody and David were so thoughtful with their questions and conversation. I certainly don’t like listening to myself talk but I do think that we need more conversations on both of these subjects. If nothing else, I hope that something from my journey can impart some hope and validation to someone else. ♥️ Take a listen if you would like but most importantly find people that support you and love you through all the craziness in life and then support them back when you are able to. 🫶

I decided to jump into the deep end for final of the @goldentrailseries this past week! I’m so glad that I did. At this point in life I weigh decisions very carefully for myself and for my family. This was not a carefully weighed decision! I just needed to go for it when the circumstances weren’t perfect or planned. Last month @timtollefson made a comment in a pre race briefing that “you will never get this moment in time back” and that resonated with me. Leaving my family (for the first time!) and trying to resume doing something I love made me feel urgent to sink myself in and squeeze everything possible out of my body.

Life can be so hard and bleak. Grief can overwhelm and anxiety can be the thief of joy. Perhaps those periods can be buffered a tiny bit by allowing ourselves to be free and present in the moments of beautiful opportunity.

When my mind started to wander and fixate on all my inadequacies, I thought of-
Ryan, Kai, my dad. They would be so happy to see this.

Thank you to @goldentrailseries for putting on a spectacular show! I am so impressed and curious to come back better.

A few weeks removed from my second race in the @goldentrailseries . Our family traveled to Mammoth for the final US race and to check out the incredible show that @mammothtrailfest has become! 🎉 Whew, I barely survived this one after a sickness started to creep in the day before the race. After making the long haul with the kids, I didn’t want to sit the bench so I went for it. I’m thankful that the illness was mild enough that I could get away with running but it sure was miserable! However, it was a special bonus to be back on a startling line with Chris. 🥹 To top that off, the trail running community was an absolute soul-filling, cup-overflowing bunch no matter how empty my legs felt! It was a gift to experience all of this.

If I’m honest, it’s a whole different rodeo trying to do this with young kids in tow but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Some of my best childhood memories are following my dad around while he chased that perfect 8 second ride. He mostly got bucked off or hurt but sometimes the stars aligned. That’s what keeps us feeling alive, dreaming and growing!

Somehow I was still able to put together enough points to move onto the final in Italy this week. The goal is to continue to gain some positive momentum!
