This Mediterranean lobster 🦞 has blue blood, pees to communicate, and carries two completely different weapons on its arms.

Not metaphorically—literally. Its blood is blue because it uses hemocyanin, a copper-based molecule to transport oxygen, instead of the iron-based hemoglobin that makes human blood red.

* They can live for several decades if they avoid nets, traps, and predators.
* They have two different claws: one powerful crusher claw and one sharper cutter claw.
* Their shells are usually dark blue-black, not bright red. They only turn red when cooked.
* They communicate by releasing chemicals into the water through their urine.
* If they lose a leg or claw, they can regrow it over successive molts.
