President Bola Tinubu has approved lifetime salary payments for retired Comptrollers-General and Deputy Comptrollers-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has said.

Tunji-Ojo disclosed this on Friday during the closing ceremony of the Specialised Border Control and Immigration Management System training at the Immigration Service headquarters in Abuja.

The minister also said the President had cleared promotion backlogs across agencies under the Ministry of Interior, adding that more than 50,000 personnel had been promoted within three years.

He said the administration had also expanded recruitment, with at least 40,000 personnel recruited at once, while improvements had been made to salaries and allowances, including hazard and peculiar allowances.

Tunji-Ojo said the welfare of retired senior immigration officers had received particular attention, noting that their pensions had previously been inadequate.

He explained that retired Comptrollers-General, who formerly received about N130,000 in pension payments, would now benefit from the President’s approval of lifetime salaries for them and their deputies.

The minister praised Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented support for security agencies, saying the President had fulfilled several requests aimed at improving the welfare and working conditions of personnel.

He urged officers to reciprocate the administration’s support through dedication to duty and effective service delivery, stressing that their responsibility was to ensure Nigerians were satisfied with their services.

Tunji-Ojo further described Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda as a long-term plan focused on strengthening institutions, saying the President’s policies were designed to deliver lasting benefits beyond his tenure. by @alimiidris

BREAKING: UCH Resident Doctors Suspend Warning Strike Over Power & Water Crisis

The Association of Resident Doctors at University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan has suspended its three-day warning strike over electricity and water shortages.

In memo issued Thursday Oct 15 jointly signed by President Dr Uthman Adedeji & Gen Sec Dr Mary Awodiji, ARD-UCH said: "Sequel to resolutions of EGM held Oct 8, 3-day warning strike has been completed. Work resumes today Oct 15 by 8am."

Doctors began strike Monday Oct 12 to protest persistent power outages & chronic water shortage around College of Medicine axis — area said to have been left in darkness since Jan 2026 when faulty circuit breaker supplying hospital was sacrificed to keep main hospital running. New breaker installed Sept 10 but supply remained erratic.

ARD says demands remain: immediate restoration of electricity to affected area, repair of faulty breakers for backup, uninterrupted power across all hospital sections.

Doctors have given UCH management 7-day ultimatum Oct 12-19 to fix issues, warning indefinite strike if unmet. Services resume but tension remains. by @alimiidris

NEC: Oyo Well Represented by Deputy Gov, Govt Replies Sanusi

The Oyo State Government has dismissed claims by Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi that the state has been absent from National Economic Council (NEC) meetings.

In a statement on Thursday, Governor Seyi Makinde's Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, said Sanusi's claim reflects ignorance of NEC procedures, noting that Makinde had formally notified the Vice President, who chairs the Council, that Deputy Governor, Barr. Bayo Lawal, would represent the state.

Olanrewaju explained that NEC allows states to be represented by either the governor or deputy governor, and effectiveness is judged by quality of representation, not physical presence of the governor.

He said Lawal has consistently attended NEC meetings since 2025, with the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning providing technical support.

He added that Oyo has not missed any opportunity or benefit, as NEC deliberations cover agriculture, infrastructure, human capital development, digital enterprise, food security and climate resilience.

Olanrewaju questioned Sanusi's motive, alleging his recent open support for a political candidate suggests political bias, and urged that public criticism should be based on verifiable facts. by @alimiidris

Nigeria, what a failed nation. Every day, the dead cry for the dead. We have lost a good man, a shining star, a modern-day prophet, hardworking and diligent.

Nigeria has lost too many people, old and young, to poor emergency response and a poor healthcare system. Access to quality healthcare is not guaranteed. Hospitals turn people away when they believe they lack the equipment to handle serious emergencies. This is deeply sad. Deeply, deeply sad.

Toluwanisings sadly died in the early hours of yesterday. A shining light to the world went out abruptly. The world is still in disbelief.

Beyond being a gospel minister, Tolu was a good man. I call on his friends and colleagues to stand by his family and ensure they are well supported and protected.

And please watch… His death was not ordinary. by @alimiidris

The personal assistant to late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings has recounted the desperate efforts to save the singer’s life after he suddenly slumped in Ibadan, Oyo State. Babadunni Gbolabo said the team rushed him to several hospitals for emergency treatment but struggled to secure medical attention before his death on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

According to Gbolabo, the singer was taken first to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, but they were unable to obtain the required care because doctors were on strike. He said they subsequently moved from one facility to another in search of help, hoping that medical personnel would be able to revive the singer.

The aide said they visited about seven or eight hospitals in total, with some reportedly citing the strike or the unavailability of doctors. He also said Toluwanisings had appeared well before he slumped, making the sudden incident particularly shocking for those around him. These details are based on the aide’s account to the media.

Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died aged 41, less than a day after ministering at a worship programme in Ibadan. His death has prompted tributes from fans and fellow gospel musicians, while his family says details of the funeral arrangements will be announced later. by @alimiidris
