Part of our report from Chaqra in southern Lebanon close to the so-called “yellow zone”, some 600 km2 of Lebanese territory occupied by I$rael.

This was as far as we could go. Ahead of us in the village of Houla Merkava tanks were carrying out operations, with artillery fire to the side of us and a drone overhead.

But life is slowly returning to Chaqra as people were carrying out repairs to buildings and water supply. Full report to follow taken in Chaqra by @alirida_sb

I was honored to travel with @steve_sweeney_journalist and @alirida_sb to the Qasmiya bridge in the Sour district in Southern Lebanon to visit the site where Steve and Ali were targeted and nearly killed by the Zionist regime five months ago to the day on March 19, 2026. It was their first time back and I was honored to film them and talk about their feelings being back at this site. 🚨 Report from Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh

Our priority while filming in the south or elsewhere in Lebanon is always the people, speaking to them and raising their voices and listening to them tell the stories about the land that belongs to them. We always have more footage than we can show in a TV news package, having to choose carefully selected quotes for broadcast, hoping we do justice to the people.

Yesterday we filmed in Zawtar al-Gharbiyeh, one of the so-called “pilot zones” agreed by the Lebanese government under the tripartite framework agreement signed with I$rael and the United States. On Wednesday the Prime Minister Nawaf Salam entered the village, planted the Lebanese flag and gave a grandstanding speech about liberating the south. But he failed to speak to locals, citing “security concerns” as if he would ever be a target for the Israeli’s

The local mayor told us that the state has never spoken to him and that he found out his own village was to become a “pilot zone” the same way as the rest of us, watching the news on television. Villagers said they felt betrayed and that it shouldn’t have been Salam who raised the Lebanese flag, but those to whom the land belongs as they return with dignity.

Today locals finally entered and returned to find scenes of devastation, the I$raeli’s having levelled the village, an act which can only be described as a war crime, one of many that it has committed as part of it’s ethnic cleansing operations across southern Lebanon.

One of the women who has lived in Zawtar al-Ghrabieh for more than 35 years told us: “When the south is liberated, we will raise the Lebanese flag on the roofs of all our houses and scatter roses and rice in celebration of the liberation of the entire south”

This is the spirit of resistance by @alirida_sb
