💙⚾ Meet Charlie the Champion, a 7 year-old from Burbank born with half a heart. His courage has inspired the Nelson family to create the Charlie’s Champs Charity Softball Tournament, raising funds for HeartWorks (@webuildhearts), a nonprofit fighting for better treatments and cures for congenital heart disease.

Join Charlie and his family this Saturday, August 23 at George Izay Park for a day of softball, food, raffles, and family fun, all for an incredible cause. 🥎✨

A back to school post…
2 things can be true

Time goes so fast yet also so slow.

I can want the time to hurry up and go faster and also to hit pause and stop and even to rewind.

The end of summer is bittersweet and I can also be glad to have it behind us.

I can be sad to see one chapter end while also anticipating the beginning of new adventures.

I can be excited about what is to come while also anxious about the unknowns.

I can miss them when we are apart and greatly crave the quiet alone time when together.

I can look forward to the routine and rhythm of the school schedule all the while dreading the early morning chaos, homework, and monotony of the days to come.

I can hate screens and also find them as complete lifesavers.

I can feel guilty for not cooking healthy nutritious meals three times a day and I can believe that fed is best, at all ages.

For anyone else on the brink of all the feels with the new school year, big changes, and yet ages to go… i see you 🤍

The years really are long and the days really are short by @alisamnelson

Part 2 of our trip and probably the highlight of all…
The Santa Cruz steam train @roaringcamp has long been on my bucket list of things to do with the kids and I can definitley say that it lived up to and exceeded our expectations. This basecamp was adorable and the ride through the California Redwoods on a working steam train as old as the Titanic!! Chefs kiss as people say 🤌🏻

The icing on the cake though was that after riding the train and having our fun I realized that I couldn’t find our car key… the employees and folks running the camp went above and beyond trying to help us find it - even going so far as to drive up the hill to search that starbucks bag IN THE TRASH (that you can see edee carrying in the beginning, which I threw away at the top of the train ride). We guessed they must have fallen out of my pocket while on the train, slipped out the bottom of the train through a hole that was near the feet of where we happened to be sitting never to be found again. So we spent a lot of extra time here eating (delicious food!), shopping, searching and searching some more, making phone calls, and the blacksmith even forged a spear and knife for the boys out of old RR tracks!

Lo and behold as we were on the phone with a very expensive locksmith a hiker walked right past with our key, turned it into the office, and they called and let us know while the hiker walked right by us eating lunch! It was crazy amazing.

There is another train that rides from the Mtn camp all the way down to the beachfront/boardwalk that we got to see roll by a few times and that also looked so fun.

We hit the @themysteryspotsc and of course more beach time, it was such a great week! by @alisamnelson

Part 1 of our much needed, just us, family summer adventure vacation week along the CA coast ❤️ this is a trip I have been thinking about for some time and it was honestly better than I even expected.

Solvang ➡️ Monterey ➡️ Big Sur ➡️ Santa Cruz ➡️ San Luis Obispo

We went to 4 different beaches, hiked to a waterfall among the Redwoods, did the Aquarium (which has long been on my list), boardwalk, saw amazing views, relaxed, shopped, ate, played, swam, boogie boarded, and watched the kids truly enjoy each others company.

First he was 6️⃣ then he was 7️⃣ and now he is 8️⃣!!!

Eight is so great that we celebrated twice! This sweet boy was patient enough to wait a week for his birthday party and then to be completely agreeable to postponing another week once Sammys ⚾️ team was doing so well during the playoffs!

We had originally planned a stay in Anaheim for Charlie’s Bday weekend to coincide with Edee’s final volleyball tournament of the season… but when that location changed at the last minute we had to shuffle things around then too. So we had a family + bestie buddy water playdate on his actual bday (while matthew and edee did day 1 of 🏐/dealt with his broken down truck getting towed from Irvine) > day 2 of 🏐 > patiently made it through lotssss of baseball and finally celebrated our special boy the way he deserved with a super fun Kirby party⭐️💗☁️

All the waiting and work was more than worth it to see his smile, joy, and the fun of celebrating our wonderful Charlie with friends of his own, family,#hlhs and family friends.

The privilege of this milestone does not go a day unappreciated 🫀❤️‍🩹 #hlhs by @alisamnelson

Last week our exceptional E promoted from middle school and we officially have a high schooler 🎉

We celebrated with a lovely pool party along with her closest friends and their families; it was sweet, fun, and the perfect ending to this chapter.

Every photo in this reel was taken within the last month of school, during which she performed in her final choir pop show and at Disney California Adventure park… participated in a 3+ hour karate test where she earned her RED belt in Tang Soo Do…
played amazing in her 2 day final volleyball tournament of the season… and all while not only making it all look easy but most importantly that she is having fun.

I am proud of Edee for maintaining honor roll status all three years of middle school, including this past year when she joined Gate classes… for volunteering more than double the requested hours as part of the CJSF honor society over the last two years…
I am proud of her friend choices and for supporting those friends, and for being a great big sister and oldest cousin.

Most of all, I am so incredibly proud and impressed at how well she already knows herself at this age - she definitley knows “WHAT SHE WANTS” and has the confidence to speak her mind and go after what she wants.

I can’t wait to experience this next chapter alongside her and see what she does next.

We celebrated our Sammy turning TEN with an epic weekend of fun by hosting a DUDE Perfect 🐼 themed party for our sports loving boy. It was so wonderful to see how special he felt, how much fun he had, and how happy he was.
The next day was little league day at Dodger Stadium where our team surprised us by decorating their/our cars and caravaning there together. Dodgers won and kids got to run the bases. It was the bestttt ⚾️🏀⛳️🏟️🏈🏅 taken in Dodger Stadium by @alisamnelson

This week marks the 125th anniversary of CHLA, a truly special place where I have had the honor of caring for some of the sickest of the sick babies for over 22 years. A place so special that has given us almost 8 years with our sweet boy.

Charlie and I were recently invited to partake in a celebratory event/photoshoot with other CHLA patients and families. It was such a fun experience to be a part of; this video celebrating @childrensla anniversary was just released and we are grateful to have been a part of it.

There are several clips and shots of Charlie through the years, in the current day he is wearing the blue plaid shirt or a green shirt with red shoes and I am wearing scrubs.
