One week ago today, on August 31st, my dad passed away peacefully in the arms of his closest loved ones.

My dad was a chingón through and through. At 19 years old, he crossed the U.S. border with the goal of building an intentional life for himself and his family - and that’s exactly what he did.

He was hardworking, he was stubborn, he was fiery, he was charismatic. He knew exactly what he wanted, what he liked, didn’t like, and he never doubted himself. These are qualities I deeply admire in him and aspire to embody more of myself.

He always used to say “don’t trust nobody.” And while I know he meant that in the sense of looking out for myself, I think he always knew that above anyone else, you have to trust yourself most of all in everything you do to create the life you want.

I know he is reunited with his mom, who has been gone for 16 years, and I find comfort in knowing that they are together again, with us in every moment.

Dad, you were a strong man in everything you did, up to your final moments with us. Seeing you be surrounded by so much love, compassion, and support is something I will never forget. It was beautiful.

I will forever be your Reyna and now you will forever be my Angel. Descanza en paz - te quiero. 🤍 by @alisolisv
