This is me, the artist, the maker, the creator, the sharer of content both on here and in person. I paint, I draw, I sculpt, using all kinds of mediums in all kinds of seasons. I make from the heart, filtered by the mind, best to my physical being capability. I love being a creative and the journeys it takes me on, both big and small. When I share my works with others, I share a piece of me, a tiny drop of self, so It's often a very private and sensitive exchange. I get hurt, disappointed and frustrated at times with different aspects and outcomes but always roll with what I get in return. I learn so much about the process and sensibilities of exchange and ponder the travel of some pieces as they go out into the world. What an emotively charged life it is being a creative, we all see it, we all feel it. This is me today. Thanks for being there with me ❤️ #blackandwhitephotography #blackandgrey #inbetweentheshadows taken in Narrm by @alistair_fowler

What a major highlight of my career as an artist and life. I was always that kid that was told I wouldn’t amount to much at school. I struggled alot with reading and writing, not understanding my learning disabilities or difficulties and the major impact it had on my confidence in general. Here I am, just sold one of my sculptures to the Victoria State Library. This is such a big moment for myself and I can’t thank those that have supported me in this enough. Autonomy was purchased and handed over to the @library_vic on Tuesday with quite the back end of work over the past few of months. It was a wonderful experience to meet the person behind the emails and hearing the interest that the library is taking to hear and represent diverse voices from the local Victorian community. It’s a rare and honourable thing that they have purchased a sculpture and an even rare thing being their first known Queer Artist of Trans experience. Truly amazing 🙏🙏🙏♥️♥️♥️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ taken in Naarm by @alistair_fowler

Tree Kangaroo-Unsuspecting ghosts of a climate crises series. Hand formed ceramic sculpture with duality, 42cm high, 18cm wide.
This sculpture and a few others were made for an exhibition @fletcher_64 message them to find out more.
Australia is home to two species of tree kangaroo: Lumholtz’s tree-kangaroo (Dendrolagus lumholtzi) and Bennett’s tree-kangaroo (Dendrolagus bennettianus). Both are native to the rainforests of Far North Queensland, where they spend much of their lives moving through the forest canopy.
Their dependence on rainforest habitat makes them particularly connected to the health of these ecosystems. Habitat loss and fragmentation, climate change, extreme weather and other environmental pressures can affect their ability to survive.
Unlike ground-dwelling kangaroos, they can rotate and move their hind feet more independently, allowing them to position their feet on branches and descend trees headfirst. Their ankle and hip joints provide greater flexibility than those of terrestrial kangaroos.
The tree kangaroo represents a distinctive adaptation to life in the canopy, challenging the familiar image of the Australian kangaroo. Its presence within the rainforest reflects the intimate relationship between animal and habitat—a relationship that becomes increasingly fragile as the landscape changes. ❤️❤️❤️ #climateaction #kangaroo #australiananimals taken in Naarm by @alistair_fowler

Emu’s first steps. Hand built statement piece that was originally made to enter in an art prize somewhere and have since decided to send it off to @fletcher_64 This sculpture is a stunning example of my top heavy clay work. Fired to earthenware and finished with earthy toned textured whites, this piece is not for the great outdoors. Standing at almost 50cm high, it’s one of my bigger pieces. ~ A rare white emu, newly arrived, stands at the edge of beginning. Its first steps are tentative, almost uncertain, yet filled with the possibility of what might come. In its paleness, vulnerability becomes visible—a life marked as different, exposed within an environment already under strain.
Every first step carries a quiet tension, an unconscious dance between safety and exposure, uncertainty and possibility, survival and hope. The emu’s journey becomes a reflection of this fragile threshold, where the smallest movement can hold enormous significance.
Native to Australia, the emu belongs to a landscape shaped by extremes and continual change. This rare white individual seems to embody that tension—a striking presence, but one whose difference may also make its path more precarious.
For a brief moment, its beginning becomes something larger than itself, a reminder that every life starts in uncertainty. Each step forward is both an act of vulnerability and an expression of possibility, suspended between what is and what might be. ❤️❤️❤️ taken in Naarm by @alistair_fowler

It’s freaky Friday in the studio and love getting into an unconscious roll with making! As much as I enjoy sharing this journey with everyone, at the end of the day, this what I do-I’m an artist that loves making my art, more than anything else, love making these goof ball critters come to life out of clay-mud. I’m a one fire guy when it comes to studio made sculptures, it’s my little bit for the environment. Anyway, enough social media waffle for now. Enjoy the weekend everyone ♥️♥️♥️ by @alistair_fowler

Love, love, love dropping off new works to @fletcher_64 and seeing how she curates every bodies art. Meet Big boy, Priscilla and Masco cat. Unfortunately my photography skills didn’t pick up Big boys deep midnight blues and blended blacks glaze, reminds me of an old school classic car restoration, he really is a striking guy in real life. Playful Priscilla is constantly blushing and yes she has a silver body and Masco cat has a very unique smooth glaze finish with the illusion of being textured. Then there’s the fine company they keep in these snaps. ♥️♥️♥️ @tedsecombeofficial @lisaroet @gregdalyceramics @marniehaddad @andrewhustwaite taken in Naarm by @alistair_fowler

I’ve been thinking about this holiday.
After a serious injury, getting some of my independence back has felt huge. Being able to go places on my own, make plans, wander around, go out, meet people, feel confident in my body again. Things I used to take for granted suddenly weren’t so simple.
Sydney Contemporary was a real highlight. Being around art, artists and people who are obsessed with making things reminded me how much I love being an artist. How much I need it, really.
I’ve also been thinking about that line: “The artist has to live like everybody else.”
Not just in terms of money or making a living. I mean actually living. Having love. Sexiness. Friendship. Affection. Good to Bad conversations. Being looked after. Being a bit ridiculous. Having people around who make you smile.
Because being a sensitive artist in a world that can be pretty fucking cold — and sometimes brutal — can be a lot. You feel things. You notice things. You absorb things. And sometimes you get tired of pretending that doesn’t affect you.
I don’t want to harden myself just to cope with the world anymore than I have too.
So I’m grateful for this trip. For the cute dates, the catch-ups, the random chats, the new and old connections, the smiles, the art, the freedom, and all the little reminders that life is still happening.
And maybe most of all, I’m grateful to feel a bit more like myself again.
Still figuring shit out at this age is a wild ride. Still sensitive. Still an artist.
But moving. For context, these words were above the entrance to Sydney Contemporary on a huge sign, they are by the late Billy Apple. Thank you. ❤️❤️❤️ taken in Naarm by @alistair_fowler

Good morning from sunny Broadbeach, Kombumerri country. This is a little progress video to touch base with those that are interested in my recovery journey post January accident. A couple of weeks ago I was given the ok to walk slowly on sand, although the vertebrae have healed well I still have lingering issues with my hip and I’m out of the trauma stage recovery wise I’m now with a regular physio and osteo. As some of you know I really am not a fan of Melb winter so decided to go to where the beach where the accident happened to also work on my PTSD through exposure therapy. The healing is long and at times very challenging but here I am at the beach, enjoying all the sights and sounds that it has to offer. I’m not ready or able confidence wise to walk down to the waters edge on my own as I’m still a bit wobbly on my feet especially on the sand. For the first time since a very small child I’m not drawn to go into the waters edge, it’s a strange feeling- mixed emotions as water to me evokes feelings regardless. Any way thanks for your support and looking forward to a few more days here of sun before heading to Sydney Contemporary ♥️♥️♥️ by @alistair_fowler
