Better late than never, meet Michaela! At age 28, she has been riding for about 3 seasons but her husband has been snowboarding since he was little. They moved from Indiana to Oregon which is where he got back on the mountain and she decided to learn.

Michaela grew up in the Midwest and moved to Oregon 3 years ago where she is a pediatric physical therapist. She and her husband love living in Oregon and they love camping, snowboarding, hiking, and dirt biking. They usually take their 3 dogs with them on their adventures.

Her favorite place to shred is Willamette Pass because it’s a small mountain and never has lines! One of the best things she has gotten from snowboarding is confidence. Michaela’s parents, brother, and husband inspire her. Her biggest fear is disappointing the people in her life or failing at her job. From snowboarding she has learned patience!

Her past experiences have made her who she is. Her parents were the best role models and did everything to support her and her brother growing up. She has been able to find herself, gain confidence, and become more comfortable with who she is and her goofiness.

The long awaited new addition to the Women’s Highlight Series is Adele! She grew up in Western New York and went to college in Vermont before moving to Utah and then Colorado. She has also worked in the industry since she was 17 and is currently a snow cat operator!

At age 30, she has been riding for roughly 20 years! She has ridden so many places and has so many memories that she can’t nail down her favorite spot. The best thing that she’s gotten from snowboarding is friends and those who inspire her are her friends, family and her nephew.

Ironically, Adele’s biggest fear are heights and chair lifts. Her past and the support and guidance that she has gotten from friends and family has made her who she is.

Adele also has some pretty rad dogs that they always go on adventures with (they’re extremely photogenic as well.)

Another addition to the Women’s Highlight Series is Jackie! She is originally from Lilburn, GA and didn’t grow up with ski sports but finally found it when she was 25. She lives in Maine and is a snowmaker and groomer at Sugarloaf. She thru hiked the entire AT in 2020. She also runs her own womens backpacking and adventure travel company! She also has a fur baby named Mason who enjoys walks and creek swimming in the summer.

At 28, she has been riding for 3 years.

The best thing she has gotten from snowboarding is peace. It helps quiet her mind from the daily stressors of life. All of the other outdoorsy women out there who push limits and inspire other women to do the same, are those who inspire Jackie the most. Her biggest fear in life is just wasting it and not making the most of it. From boarding she has learned to be playful and not take it so seriously, to help others out, offer wisdom, to share the mountain, and let people have a good time!

Who made you who you are?
“I did. That might sound selfish or self-righteous, but I’m the one who put in the work to get myself where I am now, and it hasn’t been an easy or linear route. But I’ve done a lot of work to change my mindset and get myself to a better place. I usually learn from my mistakes or notice when something isn’t feeling right or going well, and so I do something different in order to be better tomorrow.”

She wants other girls to see that you don’t have to grow up snowboarding to be a “snowboarder” and also to follow what you love! Jackie would also like to share that she is affiliated with Shred Rebels, an organization which hosts Girls Ride Day, where they get a big group of girls together and ride all day and hype each other up, make new friends and encourage each other to level up!

✨WOMENS HIGHLIGHT SERIES PART ONE✨

It was very important to me that I started off this Women’s Highlight Series with one of my close friends, 23 year old badass boarder Stevie! Stevie has been snowboarding since she was 4 and stated that she feels old.

Stevie is originally from Pennsylvania but now calls Oregon home! She has worked in the industry for about 7 years. She works on the park crew at Meadows currently and she hopes that this inspires women to work on park crews more often since they lack diversity. When she isn’t boarding she usually teaches ceramics at a sleepaway camp in Vermont. However, we owe her a big congratulations on her acceptance of a corporate position at Timberline!

Her favorite place to shred is Copper in the Winter and Timberline in the summer. The person who inspires her the most is her Momma and her biggest fear is losing anymore loved ones. The best thing she has gotten from snowboarding are friends and her boyfriend! Mount Hood brought them together one summer and he is still her favorite riding partner.

The biggest impact on her life has been losing both of her parents in the past year. “It was really hard and I had to move back east from Colorado to handle responsibilities that came with my new reality,” wrote Stevie.

✨ WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHT SERIES ✨
To kick off my new series, I wanted to introduce myself! Hi, I’m Amber! I created this series to highlight one woman per week who has been a part of the snow sports industry. They’re going to be here to tell their story and share why snowboarding is important to them!

I started my snowboarding journey 3 seasons ago and when I first started I wasn’t sure I’d come back. I was awful. My second season I was with friends who pushed me to get better & better. This season I’ve been working full time, I’m in school to finish my bachelors full time & I finally got around to being back online with ALiVE!

I created this business because snowboarding became my escape through tough times in my life. Last summer was really tough on my mental and emotional health but I’m happy to say it’s been so much better now. I got my associates in Business Administration. My bachelors will be in Marketing. I work full time at a ski shop so 6 months out of the year I help people find their love for snow sports & the other 6 months I spend driving pool chemicals around like a badass. (Yes, I think I’m a badass because I have my class B CDL.) 😂

I can’t thank my friends & family enough for being on this journey with me. I can’t thank all of my followers & supporters enough either! ALiVE would be nothing without all of you. Always remember to go where you feel the most alive & don’t let anyone stand in your way. I can’t wait to highlight so many more of you women & I can’t wait to tell your stories!
