1) my second (and final) attempt at cleaning the choreo
2) my attempt during groups @ NYCC where i learned this from the 🐐 himself (was genuinely scared shitless taking that class because i always psych myself out thinking i’ll fail at retention miserably + taking class alone is so awkward i consistently exude standing girl emoji..)
3) my first attempt at cleaning the same day i learned the choreo (had to make sure it was fresh in my mind 💆‍♀️)

throughout this, i really tried to focus on navigating through my mind-to-muscle movement. i know where to accent moves/what i want sharper or fuller and other places to release & let it flow. controlling my limbs to look the way i want to however, is of course, a hella lot easier said than done. but!! i am experimenting w/ movement more and changing up a thing or two w/ every few run throughs as i clean,, which has allowed me to be more kinder to myself and reminds me why i move in the first place… to let go/stress-relief/test my limits yadda yadda

this felt so awesome and grounded (even though i still haven’t mastered the art of breathing while dancing so it looks like i’m flailing limbs in a zumba class). BUT, this one didn’t give me ankle pain!! everyone say YAY! so so grateful to learn from so many different people (even if it’s just for an hour or two) in spaces that are so open & welcoming, movement always finds me when i seem to need it the most 🫂

i remember watching bloom on my explore page for the first time my freshman year of college in absolute awe. i could literally feel how Sam felt and understood music through the way he moved. and that’s what dance is all about (to me at least), movement to empower emotions felt through song, and consequently, the feelings of the soul. he just understood it in a way i had genuinely never seen before and i was hooked.

i’ll only ever know Sam as a teacher, and in all honestly i genuinely had no business taking his classes at the skill level i was at (🗿) but man i just wanted to be in the room where it happened, to see choices made real time, to watch as he fostered a space overflowing with passion towards dance and love for music real time. every time someone asked me who my dance inspiration was, i’d always say Sam, even before they even finished asking the question. (i’d also always get new music to add to my playlist from songs he’d choreo to or whatever was on his instagram if i’m being honest) watching him made me truly believe dance could be conveyed in a way that was genuine and so, so full of love.

i held back learning bloom because this piece of his was what made me really want to take dance seriously in college, and i used to tell myself “i’ll learn it a few years down the line when i’m better; hopefully he runs it back/takes it out of the vault.” i decided to learn bloom today through video. i still think i’m at a point where i’m not skill-ready to even attempt to do this piece justice, but in coming to terms with everything, this piece was a reminder of why i dance. not to be perfect but to practice how to better share passion and share love through such a beautiful art form. your impact is eternal Sam and i will forever be learning from you 🕊️

i’ve been meaning to dump this for over a year now… finally lurked through my hard drive and dug these out 🥸 CAN U BELIEVE these are over a year old what. za. eff. i think this was the last (and maybe only) time i “trained” (aka take choreo classes i had no business taking) but i’m glad it happened regardless, now i get 0 embarrassment walking into any class space cos i’ve ate absolute shit in other classes and survived! p.s. tell me why my textures have gotten worse LOL some of these were lowkey so smooth what happened ……

TS SO CHOPPED 🥸🔪🚕 but compared to my takes during groups from all the choreo classes i took last summer (which i had and still don’t have any business taking 😭), there is definitely improvement… like i can see a vision forming even if she dunno it yet. anyways enjoy this choptness; main notes when I revisit this is to exaggerate movement in my shoulders and chest more + get used to taking up more space by stepping wider & extending further.
