@jehernandezhtx East End Echoes Vol. 1 is out now, everywhere. The album is a version of the original electro-acoustic experimental sound walk that documented the stories of people living in Houston’s historic East End (segundo barrio) and intersected interviews with music. Now in album format, accessible for anyone.

The sound walk is still available and is a public installation. Visit eastendechoes.com for more info.

“Red 1” preview from @jehernandezhtx East End Echoes Vol. 1, releasing everywhere on 2/15. This piece contains a recording from a Latina business owner from Houston’s 2nd ward and original music.

We’ll be releasing several clips leading up to the albums release, created in collaboration with @silbaca that contain footage from Houston, co-directed by the J.E. that speak to the feelings generated and contained by the music.

The soundwalk and more information can be accessed at eastendechoes.com.

We are ALKABIL AUDIO, a bespoke microlabel. Our first release will be @jehernandezhtx East End Echoes Vol. 1.

This is the album version and release of a larger sound walk. We’ll be releasing clips of the work alongside films made specifically for the album’s release, leading up to its launch on February 15th.

East End Echoes invites listeners into a layered sonic mosaic, weaving together interviews from residents of Houston’s Historic East End with evolving musical fragments. Composer J.E. Hernández has shaped these overlapping voices and textures into a vivid chronicle of place, balancing raw oral histories with shifting tonal landscapes that emphasize the depth and diversity of the neighborhood’s lived experiences. Originally designed as a site-specific soundwalk—now a permanent fixture in the community—the project continues to grow over time, accruing new perspectives and musical cells as more participants share their stories.
