In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: "O tranquil soul, return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him]. Enter among My servants, and enter My Paradise.” (Qur’an 89:27–30)

I began writing a post this morning about the passing of Khala Maryam (or as I loved to call her, Auntie Irish). Then, SubhanAllah, I received the news of the passing of Khala Warda.

Two beautiful souls who touched so many lives and held a special place in the hearts of so many of us in the Tucson community and beyond. There truly aren’t enough words to capture who they were, what they loved, and the lasting impact they made.

Today, I ask that we take a moment to pause, make duaa for them, remember them, and continue their legacy through Sadaqah Jariyah (ongoing charity).

There are two initiatives to help build wells in Africa—one in honor of Khala Maryam and one in honor of Khala Warda. We ask Allah to accept these efforts as Sadaqah Jariyah on their behalf. Please consider contributing to both (the links are in my bio):

Update: campaign has ended. Thank you for your contributions!

May their legacy continue to flow, just like the goodness they brought into this world. May Allah bless their souls, grant them the highest levels of Jannah alongside the Messengers and the Prophets, and reunite them in barzakh with one another and with their loved ones who have passed.

As we mark 100 episodes of the Sumud podcast,
We thank you, dear Sumud Family, for your support.
We dedicate this work to our parents, our martyrs, our grandparents, our leaders, our healthcare workers, our academics, our political prisoners, our journalists
Those in exile and those in the diaspora.
In Palestine, in Lebanon, in Sudan, and in Congo
We carry their memory, their struggle, and their truth to the next generation
Until all are free.
Here’s to the next 100. Here’s to Sumud.

We are proud to feature @amani, founder of @muslimgirl, as our 100th guest! Watch now on @watermelonplusco
