••• Mount Balwangsan 🎿🚡🏔️•••

We spent part of our day exploring Mount Balwangsan, and it was such a beautiful way to experience the mountains of South Korea. We took the cable car up through the forest, with some incredible views opening up as we climbed higher into the mountains.

At the top, we made our way to the Balwangsan Skywalk, where we could take in the surrounding peaks and forests from above. We visited in mid-October, so the autumn colours were starting to come through, and the crisp mountain air made it all the more enjoyable. 🍁

We explored the area using the local tourist taxi service, and our guide, Ha Jun, was fantastic. Having someone local to help us get around made the day that much easier and more enjoyable!

Between the cable car ride, the Skywalk and the autumn scenery, it was a lovely day out in Pyeongchang and a great chance to see a different side of South Korea beyond the big cities.

🌲🇰🇷 A walk through a thousand years of history at Woljeongsa Fir Tree Forest, Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Hidden within Odaesan National Park, Woljeongsa Fir Tree Forest is a beautiful escape into nature, with more than 1,700 towering fir trees lining a peaceful walking trail leading to the historic Woljeongsa Temple. Their tall trunks and leafy canopy create an almost cathedral-like atmosphere, making this a wonderful place to slow down and appreciate Korea's quieter side.

🍂 Visiting in mid-October made it all the more special. The surrounding mountains and woodland were bursting with autumn colours, from golden yellows and fiery oranges to deep reds, creating a stunning contrast against the forest's evergreen trees. Paired with the crisp mountain air and refreshing autumn chill, the seasonal scenery tied everything together perfectly. It was one of those places where the journey itself was just as memorable as the destination.

🏯 The forest is steeped in history, with Woljeongsa Temple dating back to 643 during Korea's Silla Dynasty. Exploring its traditional architecture and celebrated nine-story stone pagoda added another layer to the experience, bringing together centuries of Buddhist heritage and the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.

Away from Korea's bustling cities, this peaceful corner of Gangwon-do offers a chance to reconnect with nature, discover a little history, and enjoy a slower pace of travel. If you're visiting Pyeongchang, especially during autumn, Woljeongsa Fir Tree Forest is well worth adding to your itinerary.

••• Songdo Beach 🏖️ •••

First opened in 1913, Songdo holds the title of Korea’s first public beach. Once one of Busan’s most popular seaside destinations, it has been beautifully brought back to life and remains a lovely spot to experience the city’s coastal culture.

What we loved most was its laid-back, local feel. The smooth white sand, waterfront seafood restaurants and Korean barbecue joints, and plenty of locals out enjoying the beach gave the area a real sense of life without feeling overly touristy. It’s a great alternative to the busier Haeundae Beach, with plenty to keep you occupied, from kayaking and other water sports to the famous Songdo Marine Cable Car gliding over the sea. Stick around into the evening and you might even catch yacht tours with fireworks lighting up the coastline! 🚠🌅

A lovely place to slow down, enjoy some fresh seafood, and take in a different side of Busan 💙

••• Songdo Beach Cable Car 🚡 •••

🚡🌊 Soaring above the beautiful coastline of Busan, the Songdo Marine Cable Car (Busan Air Cruise) offers a whole new perspective on the city’s seaside scenery. Stretching 1.62 km across the water between Songnim Park and Amnam Park, the cable car reaches heights of up to 86 metres above the sea, with sweeping views of Songdo Beach, the rugged coastal cliffs, Yeongdo Island and the surrounding harbour.

For an extra thrill, opt for the Crystal Cruise cabins, which feature transparent floors that let you look straight down at the ocean below! On the other side, Songdo Sky Park offers scenic viewpoints and opportunities to explore the surrounding coastal landscape.

Originally opened in 1964, Songdo was Korea’s first public beach, and the cable car has become one of Busan’s signature attractions. Whether you’re visiting for the views, the experience or the photos, it’s a wonderful way to appreciate Busan’s striking blend of city, sea and coastline. 🇰🇷✨
