What I hope to read this month….

❔Which cover do you like the best?

I am terrible at keeping a strict TBR. I’m the moodiest of mood readers 😂 But I’m feeling hopeful, dare I say confident, that I can get to these this month 🤞🏻 If I get to 4, I’ll call it a win 😆

I guess you could say I’ve been making a “priority list” of the books I’m excited to read and it’s been working pretty well the last month or so!

S e p t e m b e r - 1st of THE ‘BER months 💛

September means fall is near! No, it probably won’t feel cold here for A WHILE, but a girl can dream.

What do you do to get ready for fall?

The Dark in Her Veins 🔪

Thank you to @sourcebooks.audio for the gifted copy of the audiobook for The Dark in Her Veins! It’s a great performance by the voice actor, Hayden Bishop. She sets the tone for the dry and quick dialogue needed for the story’s setting. I enjoyed my immersive read!

Talin is a sinner; she’s an assassin with an interesting past who works for the Prophet. She crosses paths with Slade who has his own secrets. Can they trust each other?

Highlights:
🖤 Dark Noir Romantasy
🔪 Dual timelines
🖤 Banter and tension!
🔪 Bisexual main characters

I really enjoyed this one! It’s fast paced and set in a unique world. Each death Talin commits brings her closer to her own. I don’t think I’ve read anything like it! I loved the morally dark gray characters and trying to figure out what they would do since they hid so much from each other. Definitely pick this one up!

The Secrets We Hide 🎧

QOTD: What did you have for breakfast?

What a perfect follow up to the first book in the North Falls series!

The Secrets We Hide follows sisters Emmy and Jude as they investigate a murder and attempted murder of a mother and daughter that occurs on the same day as their own mother’s funeral.

There are so many layers to the investigation, the town, and the sisters’ relationship. I love Karin’s writing and her ability to weave strong relatable characters and emotion into the thriller genre. If that sounds like something you’re into, definitely pick up this series!!

And the audio is amazing! @kathleenreadsoutloud brings the emotion of the characters to the forefront and shares the story in an engaging way. I love listening to her!

J U L Y R E C A P ☀️

I read a lot of thrillers in July and then spent the last week in the Tahoe area with my family!

The trip was a fun and relaxing break with yummy food!

The Lake of Lost Girls was my top read! The ending is so twisted and I had no idea where the story was going. I love when there are multiple logical(ish) possibilities that leave a reader wondering until the very end!

I’m currently slumping 😭 There are so many books I WANT to read, but reading isn’t appealing 😩 so I’m watching thriller docs instead haha

❔What do you do when in a reading slump?

I N D I E Bookstore Haul 📚

❔what’s your favorite summer dessert?

I love stopping at indie bookstores while on vacation, especially since I don’t have any in my city (crazy) except for a children’s bookstore.

I’ve heard great things about Dominion and The God of the Woods! I’m so excited to read them! And I had to pick up this cute storybook for my niece.

January to June Highlights 🩷

This has been the year of romantasy and thrillers!

We Are All Guilty Here consumed me! I’ve never read a thriller with such compelling characters and character development. It also pulled a lot of emotion from me! Book 2 is out next month and I can’t wait!

When the Moon Hatched is one of the most beautiful fantasies I’ve read! The world building is unique and I love the characters because they’re so complex yet relatable.

❔What’s your favorite read so far this year❔
