My baby girl’s FIRST year of high school called for a little mother-daughter GRWM… and apparently, a TikTok trend 🤦🏾‍♀️
I’ve always refused to participate in these dances, but if this helps set her up for success and makes her first year extra special, I’ll do whatever it takes. 💕

Attempt #2… I think we did alright. 😂
And yes, if you look closely at my face, I’m clearly being held against my will. 😳🤣

It’s official… I have a high schooler! 🥹

9th grade, a fresh start, new adventures, a little more freedom, and so much discovering who she is becoming. I honestly don’t know how the years went by so quickly…..
I couldn’t be prouder of the young lady she is, her inner strength, resilience, and determination continue to amaze me. And making JV Volleyball is the perfect start to this exciting new chapter!

Dancing is my ground zero, level set, or rather “rhythmic reset”. When I am feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, confused, I literally have to dance it out and get lost in the sauce.

A friend @des_barzey__art sent this clip to me the other day of me teaching+dancing @jcfamilies @jcartandculture “World Dance+Culture” event downtown JC in @hamiltonpark_jerseycity

Movement brings folks together and I love how “Baba” was getting it! following along but mostly doing his own thing, I am so here for it! Happy I still have the ability to teach and make an impact. #keepdancing by @allenandreid

Second day of my Solar return and family Summer holiday trip was amazing, heavy, humbling, angry, elated, and honored all at the same time.

A smorgasbord of emotions all at once walking historical grounds and witnessing literal proof of the atrocities committed on this soil centuries ago, and how ancestral folk still persevered through the perils and anguish. #theydontmakethemliketheyusedto #builtfromstruggle

I was also amazed to see the restoration and preservation of some of these monumental plantations just loads of land where they actually filmed movies such as

•D’Jango unchained
•Antebellum
•Alice
•Diaries of a Vampire

Photo+Video Dump happening NOW!

What better place to celebrate my solar return and annual summer holiday with my hubs/partner in crime than in New Orleans, “Nawlins,” as the locals say!

This trip felt like stepping into a living history book, stunning architecture in Jackson Square, centuries-old streets, and layers of French, Spanish, British, and American influence woven throughout the city. I even encountered former slave holding spaces that have since been transformed into restaurants, a powerful reminder of the history held within these walls. Literally if this place could talk, the conversations and stories that would be shared. #myancestorswildestdreams

And then there was the food, lots of variation From Creole and Cajun flavors to seafood, Southern comfort food, and everything in between, every meal was an experience.
But what truly made New Orleans unforgettable was the people, music, traditions, rich history, and energy! Everyone was so welcoming, friendly, generous, and eager to share their culture and teach us along the way.

One of my favorite traditions? If it’s your birthday, you pin a dollar to your chest and everywhere you go people will literally match your energy adding money, celebrating you, and wishing you a Happy Birthday! 🎉🥳 Such a beautiful tradition of generosity and community.

So grateful for the history, culture, cuisine, music, people, traditions, lessons, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. NOLA, you were EVERYTHING and owe me NOTHING!

“I’m still dancing, yeah yeah yeah” After years of taking traditional #africandance in New York and currently teaching versions of it in schools as curriculum based, for enrichment programs, and dance cardio fitness workouts for adults , it feels good to be back at it like I never left!

Is this going to be my new weekly workout…..
