The North Shore. Episode 3 of the VANTAGE series.

Marin Headlands puts you on the north side of the Golden Gate —
looking south at San Francisco with the bridge in your foreground
and the city spread out behind it. You’re no longer in the city.
You’re looking at it from the outside.

The fog rolls through the Gate every morning during fog season.
From the Headlands, you watch it pour through from above.
The city disappears beneath it. Only the rooftops poke through.

This is the view most people never stop for —
it’s 20 minutes from downtown SF and almost nobody
treats it as a photography destination.

The best view of San Francisco isn’t in San Francisco.

Treasure Island sits in the middle of the Bay Bridge —
10 minutes from downtown, open water in every direction,and the entire SF skyline as your backdrop. Most peopledrive across the bridge without stopping.

Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland puts you on the East Bay waterfront looking across the full width of the Bay — skyline, Bay Bridge, and Oakland port cranes all in one frame.

One of the most underrated photography spots in the whole Bay Area.

Want the Golden Gate Bridge AND the SF skyline in one photo? Fort Mason is one of the only places in the city that actually pulls it off.

Why it works:
→ The point juts out just far enough to catch both landmarks without a zoom lens
→ Late afternoon gives you even light on both sides — no fighting harsh shadows on one landmark while the other’s backlit
→ It’s one of the few spots on this tour that isn’t primarily about the bridge alone
