Volleyball brought Beth Vier to Iowa in 2010. As a Hawkeye, Beth started all 4 years of her collegiate career as a libero. She collected awards like she collected digs; with a fierce and fiery passion. As a senior, she broke the 23-year-old Iowa career digs record of 1,931, became the first player in Iowa volleyball history to surpass the 2,000 career digs threshold, and became a member of the Big Ten’s 1,250 digs club.

Now, Beth is bringing that same fiery intensity and love for the game to All Iowa Attack Volleyball. Raising the next generation of volleyball athletes with a focus on quality training, high volleyball IQ, and mental toughness is a big responsibility. Beth is a perfect candidate for that job. She holds her athletes to a high standard and then coaches and pushes them to meet and exceed that standard.

Beth’s goal for AIAVB is for every athlete who comes through the doors to be prepared with the volleyball skills and knowledge necessary to play at the highest level. Whether that be making the middle school team, an 8th grader making high school varsity, or a high school senior being recruited to play at the collegiate level. If continuing to play volleyball is an athlete’s dream, Beth’s dream is to help them achieve theirs. by @alliowaattackvb

Mya can’t remember a time growing up where she wasn’t playing volleyball. She trained at every position before focusing on becoming the best outside hitter she could be. Her talents took her all the way to Montana State University where she competed for the Bobcats before medically retiring from playing.

Her continued love for volleyball led her to coaching. As a coach, Mya’s philosophy is to develop all-around volleyball players, not just positional players. She wants to create a competitive environment where athletes are challenged to grow, embrace mistakes, and build confidence. Her athletes will compete hard and hold each other to high standards. Most importantly, she wants every athlete to leave the season as a better player, teammate, and person.

Mya coaches because she knows firsthand how much a coach can shape a young athlete’s life. Mya’s mom was her coach and greatest influence. Her club coaches believed in her, pushed her, and built her confidence from a young age. Now, Mya wants to do the same for every athlete who comes through the Attack gym.

A huge goal of Mya’s for this first season of Attack Volleyball is to build meaningful and powerful habits that lay a strong foundation for AIAVB to be successful in the years to come. by @alliowaattackvb

For as long as she can remember, Sadie was tagging along to her older sister’s volleyball practices, games, and tournaments. She’d steal a ball, find a wall, and immerse herself in made up volleyball games and victories.

From that early age, she knew that volleyball could be the vehicle that would take her through college. She put her head down, worked hard, stayed consistent, and never wavered from her belief in herself and her abilities. Sadie honed her skills and put herself in situations where she could learn and understand the game at a higher level. She competed as an outside hitter, at the Division I level, for the Arkansas State Red Wolves for all 4 years of her collegiate career.

Knowing that there are many other little girls with big dreams like she had, Sadie is excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach here in Ames. She has primarily coached middle school athletes and loves watching that age group discover what volleyball can (and is supposed to) look like. She will be the first to tell you that winning is great, but her favorite part of coaching is watching an athlete experience that “lightbulb” moment when something clicks and all the sudden that thing they struggled to do becomes second nature.

Wearing that All Iowa Attack name on your jersey comes with great expectations and responsibilities. Sadie’s goal is for Attack Volleyball to become synonymous with grit, intensity, toughness, accountability, respect, energy, hustle, and heart. After this first season for AIAVB, she wants people to recognize, remember, and want to be a part of Attack Volleyball because of the level at which the teams play and the way that they carry themselves. by @alliowaattackvb

Volleyball has given Sydney Watson opportunities beyond anything she could have imagined—from becoming a two-time All-American setter at the University of Nebraska and competing in the NCAA Final Four, to representing USA Volleyball and playing professionally overseas.

Now, her mission is to Play It Forward.

As a coach and director, Sydney wants to give the next generation more than just great volleyball training. Her goal is to build a culture that feels like family—one where athletes compete hard, hold one another to a higher standard, support one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and learn what it means to be a great teammate and an even better human being.

Above everything else, Sydney is a wife and mom. Her husband and their four children are the center of her world and the reason family means so much to her. She wants every athlete who walks into the gym to feel that same sense of belonging—to know they are valued, supported, heard, and seen.

Sydney’s vision is for every player, parent, and family who wears All Iowa Attack Volleyball across their back to feel genuinely proud of what it represents. She wants to build a program where people stop and watch our teams—not just because of the level of volleyball being played, but because they can feel something different.

They see the grit. They see the passion. They see teammates fighting for one another. There is an energy around those who wear our jersey—something that draws people in and makes them want to be a part of it.

Volleyball is the vehicle, but who these young women become through it is the legacy.
