Gold 🏆

Late last week, The Inclusive Code, All is for All’s collaborative work with Special New Zealand awarded a gold pin at the @bestdesignawards 🪡

The Inclusive Code, was worked on by a brilliantly talented and committed group of people, but that work was only possible because of the decision to bring it to life in the first place.

We’re grateful to Rory Gallery, Tony Bradbourne, Heath Lowe and Michael Redwood, the leaders at Special - @special_group - for their investment in the Code with us. They made meaningful space for this project within Special. Industry shifts toward inclusion, require us all to commit to making space and using the access and resources we have to make room and be challenged.

The Inclusive Code isn’t a silver bullet, nor is it the only tool to use, nor is it ‘ours’ - it is for everyone to use, and is an open set of questions to support a conversation.

All credits are listed in the comments.

As part of All is for All’s work with the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse In Care, we were part of engagements with survivors in prison. 98 survivors spoke with us.

Survivors said;

“Trauma, let me tell you about Trauma. He’s an expert by the time he is five years old, he’s smashed around like a pinball machine; what is the State going to do to identify that little boy who’d go on to hurt every woman he has a relationship with. Today, I still carry that five-year- old boy. Believing the angrier I get the safer I’ll be.”

“I’m totally responsible for my actions, but my propensity to violence is a default because of the historical trauma.”

“My school books did not have any writing in them, they had tears...”

“I wanted to raise my daughter in such a way that she was fearless. I wanted her to feel like she could do anything in the world . I would feel so much pride watching her climb to the highest slide and trying all sorts of different and new things. That has been one of the many impacts of the things I have suffered. I tried so hard to make sure my daughter was not exposed to the same things that I was. But she has been...”

Hearing directly from survivors, and helping make sure that’s heard by the Commission, was an immense privilege. You can read the work on the Commission’s website.

It’s critical we continue listening and centring survivor kōrero, and more broadly, work is better - when voices from all parts of society, are included. We are proud to help facilitate engagements like these.

This image is by Elyce, and is via Home Ground. Home Ground creates space for women in the justice system to pause, nurture hope, activate social change and create better lives for themselves and future generations. About the work, Elyce says: “Hold onto home when you’re in jail, hold onto femininity – it gets lost in the grey. Crying is cleansing. Wear your crown even if it’s a shitty one. Look beyond where you are, to a higher power and a higher self, keep your dreams alive.”

A huge thank you to the whole team who supported this work, and all the survivors who spoke with us. “Hold onto home when you’re in jail, hold onto femininity – it gets lost in the grey. From our earliest days, our friends at @rubytakessnaps have supported and championed All is for All. So, when we were looking for company’s to speak with about the journey of disability inclusion, we immediately thought of them. What we love so much about RUBY, is that they try and they learn - and that’s the spirit of these podcasts, so businesses also have permission to try, learn and be positively curious! 🦾

On our podcast we spoke with Em, the general manager of RUBY about policies in the business like “Duvet Day” for mental wellness, “Butterfly Leave” for young travellers, and working with an employment placement service, to hire disabled people in roles that work for them. 🦋

As we went through these policies, it just so happened that each of these ideas were Em’s Mum and Dad’s, who begun in RUBY in 1997 and made the family business a huge success, and one of the driving forces between industry shaping initiatives like @mindfulfashionnz 🩶 Generations of great leaders shape RUBY.

We are thinking of Em, and the whole RUBY family after the loss of Vere Sharma. by @allisforall

A huge congratulations to Molly, who represented All is for All amazingly at NZ Fashion Week. 🦾 This might be the happiest photo we’ve seen in a while, and it encapsulates exactly what we love about @nzfashionwk and creating opportunities through our talent work.

Really proud of the team to have had four brilliant models a part of New Zealand Fashion Week for the events triumphant return this year.

Thank you to @danahwa and the entire fashion week team for their support.

Fashion week is core to our start with All is for All and I’ll always remember the feeling of helping disabled people be part of the casting and event at scale for the first time. 🦾 We deserve to be everywhere.

Thank you for having us back and fighting for such an important event.

This #NewZealandSignLanguageWeek we asked Gaby Evans, who is part of our talent agency and interned with us as part of our work readiness programme, to share with us about her journey with Sign Language.

Gaby has been part of some key All is for All projects, including our work with the Covid-19 Commission, where she was part of the national campaign and that suite of ads was translated into NZSL.

Ngā mihi Gaby for sharing and we hope everyone has engaged in learning about this beautiful language this week (and every other week too) #NZSL

We ❤️ to see it.

Congratulations to our friends at @zalando for winning a gold jury prize at Favor’i E-Commerce Fevad Grand Prix in recognition of their adaptive collections. It’s such a privilege to be a small part of their journey.

Marking #IWD by recognition of all the strong disabled women working in their fields & the allies who support them!
