My 34th birthday is coming up in a week; I’m one week out of the psych ward. I spent August in two different psych wards, three weeks, due to psychosis induced by insomnia, my lifelong Major Depressive Disorder, a massive concussion in June, multiple medication changes, and self-medicating. Fortunately, I’ve found doctors and medications that are *finally* working. Next week I’ll be 25 days clean off THC, 1,531 days off alcohol, I’m recovering pretty quickly, and I’m fighting to get my life back. I ask, in the midst of this year’s global and national events and cases, for you to help break the stigma regarding mental health with me. Before judging another person, remember, we all have much, much more in common than we often take the time to realize. It’s not a blame game, it’s not “just” bad choices; it’s chemicals in your brain, severe compounded physical and emotional traumas over an extended period of time, surgeries, and also, it’s genetics. Thank you for taking this time with me. Let’s be more patient and understanding with one another, because that’s truly the greatest gift there is. Don’t think it can’t be you, because it can. And if it is, I hope you have those around you who understand too. 🎁 by @allisonsabbath
