The North Face athlete Allison Vest pursues climbing the same way she pursues art and design: driven by creativity and curiosity. Drawn to upcycling for its sustainability, challenge, and uniqueness, she takes on her most ambitious apparel collection yet.

From ball gowns to corset tops, Allison reimagines discarded display tents that had reached the end of their intended use, giving them a second life as one-of-a-kind pieces.

Figured it was time I did a real post for this @thenorthface print! At 18” x 18” it was, at the time, the biggest linocut I’d done yet. Inspired by a drive up Big Cottonwood with my dad, watching the snow melt out between the spaces in the rock. My hand was still so injured so it took a lot of PT and setting timers to not overdo it as well as some help from friends to get it done! The Class V shorts with my print on them are on sale on the @thenorthface website now so go get em!

Well, the dream is still a dream.

I went to Rocklands this year with big ambitions to try El Corazon, and see if it was possible for me. It’s always a little tough to leave a trip having put so much effort into something and not end up on top of it but, it’s the trying hard and not knowing if it’s possible that makes this silly sport SO addicting!! And, I know now that I am capable (and can span), I just need to come back stronger in the shoulders, stronger in drag and a little more brave. The learning is what it’s all about in the end.

Cheers to all the immaculate squad vibes, pad carries, spotters, and senders I met out there this year!

As a young girl, I built up some resentment of my broad shoulders, big lats, and the things about my body that made it feel impossible to conform to the light and thin standard that seemed like it was a requirement when it comes to hard climbing. Part of my desire to continue to delve into big spanner boulders is a desire to show my younger self that there is a better way to reach for big scary goals. Goals that that young girl couldn’t have even dreamed of. If you’ve been gifted with big wings might as well use em right?
