Monday Muse: Victoria Beckham Introduced to the world as Posh Spice from the Spice Girls, Victoria very quickly became one of the biggest pop stars and style icons of the 90s - early 2000s. Known for her quirky personality, love of fashion, and partnership with David Beckham, whether you like it or not, you know who she is. After the girl group announced their hiatus in 2000, Victoria experimented with a brief solo music career, and soon after moved away from the music industry altogether. During this time, she faced intense public scrutiny, ridiculed for years about her fashion choices, her facial expressions, and her role as a new mother in the midst of her husband’s football career. After moving to America with her family in 2007, Victoria finally found her confidence again and decided to start building her own luxury brand. With designer Roland Mouret taking her under his wing, she began learning the ins and outs of the fashion industry, distancing herself from her “Posh Spice” persona entirely and finding her own direction. Upon the launch of her label “Victoria Beckham” in 2008, she faced incredible amounts of scepticism, from both the public and the fashion industry itself, with many not taking her seriously due to her pop star background. To the surprise of her critics, Victoria’s first ever collection was praised for the craftsmanship of the garments, as well as the elegant silhouettes and exceptional fit. And now, after 18 years of commitment, periods of financial hardship, and the expansion of the Victoria Beckham brands, she has turned her iconic style and love for fashion into a true empire of her own.
