I had a…complicated relationship with Sound & Fury. Not really anything I want to get into here, maybe I’ll tell you about it some other time over a margarita.
•
Now, I legit can’t imagine my life without it.
•

This culture and community of music that we grew up in has produced some of the most meaningful and long lasting relationships. It allowed me to see every state in America from the window of a van. It gave me a place to express myself as an angry and lost teenager to a slightly less angry and more confident man. I’ve shared stages and couches with amazing humans and I don’t take it for granted.
Tell your friends you love them. Hang out in a parking lot until 2am. Make a mixtape. Write a song. Take a video of your friend stage diving and watch it over and over. Make a new friend and get excited about seeing them next. Hold hands with someone you love while shouting lyrics about love and loss.

Brett Cutts R.I.P., Palefire guitar player. Photos by Javier VanHuss.

Brett unfortunately passed away, far too young, in 2006. Thinking about it hurts - but we will always love his quirky sense of humor, his creativity, and most of all his camaraderie – which is truly missed by all of us, everyday.

As Palefire plays music again, there’s been some inquisitiveness in how the band will work out without Brett, being one of the original five members… so this post is a clarification for the curious, an admin reveal, and a celebration of Brett Cutts.

This is Andrew Reizuch writing this. I was a friend of Brett’s since we were both teenagers, he was someone that I spent a lot of time with – he was a co-conspirator with me in many different ways, my groomsman, and a friend that meant so much to me. Brett was weird, fun, loyal, and a joy to have as a friend.

The band asked me to play guitar as somewhat of a proxy for Brett, and it’s really been an emotional ride. But it’s important to me to keep his spirit alive and honor his colorful life and everything he’s meant to us all.

I shouldn’t be playing guitar in this band. And I wish I wasn’t. I should be in the audience as a fan, watching my friend Brett Cutts play his heart out.

By the will of providence, I somehow managed to work my way into being involved with the creation of Powertrip Worldwide Fanzine issue 2.
I wrote an article to fit the theme of the issue, RECOVERY, and am now lucky enough to not only have developed a friendship with Yego, Jeff, Dom, Adam, Paula and many others, but to have even a small part in the creative process.
If you’re interested in martial arts, punk, music, art.. this might appeal to you. I highly suggest following the zine and anyone you can find connected to it to help promote inspiration.

Time for my Chain Reaction eulogy.
•
Since 1997 I have been so many things at Chain. Regular live music enthusiast gig attendee. Jumping off the stage. Playing on the stage. Working the door. Playing on the stage some more. Attending baby showers. Setting up some truly legendary shows. Attending memorials. Playing the stage even more.
•
But this final show was cool because I took Dev, as I have been doing for almost 20 years. Chain became not only a part of my life, but my family’s. Chain Reaction was where me and my friends went, and became where Dev and their friends went.
•
In the end, I’m nothing special. I’m just a word on a page in the history of this building. But Chain Reaction stories could honestly fill a whole chapter in my book. Ask me to tell you one sometime.
•
As I said about this Showcase Theatre upon its demise- this was just a room inside of a building. Nothing inherently exceptional about that. But it was the people that gave it life. The people in the bands, watching the bands, booking the bands. This was a place where generations could experience culture, and now the book is closed.
