This summer, Alloyed Collective brings tonic. to Dr Neil’s Garden for the first time: an exhibition
exploring the healing art of craft and making.
Set within the tranquil surroundings of Thomson’s Tower, overlooking Duddingston Loch in
Edinburgh, tonic. brings together jewellers Andrea McCarthy, Sasanqua Link, Natalie Baker and Lyndsay
Fairley alongside Ploterre, Studio Brae, Graphis Books and Ruby Bay Store in a thoughtful presentation of contemporary
applied arts.
The exhibition considers how acts of making, and the objects that emerge from them, can offer
moments of restoration, presence, and connection. Through jewellery, objects, and craft-based
practices, visitors are invited to reflect on the ways carefully made work can ground us in the
present and encourage contemplation amid the pace of everyday life.
Open from Thursday to Sunday, 11am–5pm, visitors are welcome to explore the exhibition, meet
the makers, and experience the unique atmosphere of one of Edinburgh’s most cherished
garden spaces.
The exhibition opens with a convivial launch event on Thursday 2 July from 5–8pm, offering a
first glimpse of the work during the long light of midsummer. Guests are encouraged to arrive
early to enjoy refreshments and explore the gardens before viewing the exhibition.
tonic. invites visitors to slow down, engage with the work and its setting, and leave with a
renewed sense of what careful attention can mend.

Next up are the magnificent ceramics of Carrick @carrick_ceramics
Carrick is the ceramic practice of Scotland-based maker Aimee Holt, who creates hand-thrown and hand-built ceramics from her home studio in East Lothian.
Working with a minimal aesthetic, Aimee embraces traditional methods of making, allowing each piece to retain the subtle variations that come from being made by hand. Areas of unglazed clay are often left exposed, revealing the natural material and lending an earthy, tactile quality that echoes the rugged Scottish landscape.

One of the artists joining us will be Sarah Innes @rubybaystore_ with her gorgeous wrapped stones and evocative landscape paintings. Launched in 2024 this prompted a new direction in the work of landscape artist Sarah Innes. Sarah lives and works just
outside Edinburgh. Engaging with nature in an all sensory way has an intrinsic effect on Sarah’s paintings. Drawing and painting nature she feels brings her a little closer to understanding it. As well as painting Sarah is an enthusiastic beachcomber, accumulating a collection of interesting stones and sea pottery. This led her to thinking how these may be repurposed into beautiful objects. Hence forth Ruby Bay Store was born firstly in theshape of an online Etsy shop. These wrapped meditation stones are inspired by ‘Mizuhiki’ a traditional Japanese knot tying technique. Each stone has been carefully selected and wrapped using rattan. The weavehas been chosen to compliment the stone’s natural beauty. The stone can be used for meditation to transport you to a place of calm and contemplation, or simply used for
decoration and as an object to admire. taken in Dr Neil's Garden by @alloyedcollective

We're thrilled to introduce @portiaknightseaweed as our first friend of @alloyedcollective joining us for our autumn iteration of 'Tonic.'
.
A seaweed enthusiast, Portia's beautiful prints capture pressed seaweed, sustainably collected as 'drift' on many forays along the coastline in the North East of Scotland where she lives.
.
"It's about observing, really noticing the details, working gently and thoughtfully..."
.
Find a selection of her new prints and cards at our warming, restorative exhibition of applied arts and craft, set in the calm of Thomson’s Tower in Dr. Neil's Garden in Edinburgh.

Thank you to everyone who visited our show Tonic last week at Thomson's Tower - it was lovely to chat to everyone about our crafts, and to be showing our work in such a beautiful setting - which felt much more like a holiday than work!
.
Special thanks too to Juno the cat, who kept us company, and even guided visitors to us on opening night - including the new owner of the zesty green Chrysoprase ring.
.
We were thrilled to be joined by visiting artists and craftspeople; @rubybaystore @studiobrae @ploterre @graphisbooks
.
With jewellers @jewels.studioanders @nataliebakerjewellery @anaqknil and @lyndsay_fairley
.
@alloyedcollective will be back with another show in late September - we can't wait to be back!
