Friday, November 1st at 7:30pm we got some serious Mt. Airy heat with Anam Owili-Egar on piano, Tacuma Bradley on saxophone, and Kevin Ripley on drums. With fall no longer flirting but fully engaged, this is a can’t-miss fall Friday night here at the garden.

i don't post many pictures of myself or take many selfies but i just thought these photos were so beautiful that i had to post them (and not just because i am in them). on 11/10, i had the opportunity to play at the tired hands beer garden around the corner from me. for some reason, they have a grand piano onsite. works for me. was able to borrow a mic from my friend antoine and a mic stand from max, a new friend.

thanks to another new friend, forrest (@fabio_badu), for taking these lovely pictures and sharing them for no other reason than he just wanted to (these photos are presented here unaltered/unretouched by me) and thank you to jay (@jzjoynt) for coming out (along with lucy) and sitting in for a song on drums (which are also onsite for some reason). thanks to matt of the mt. airy tired hands beer garden (@thbc.mt.airy.beer.garden) for the gig and the beer.

live music is everything. i am so grateful to be able to share.

and also: ceasefire now. because when the hell did it become so fucking controversial to *not* bomb people, especially children?

my oldest daughter will be 11 next month. i think she made this either as an older 9yo or as a younger 10yo. she was really into drawing eyes during this time and this was one of her first attempts in color, instead of pen or pencil.

for the longest time, i didn't realize that she'd written something on the back. then i forgot and rediscovered it recently.

i'm not sure that she wrote this specifically because i suggested that she sign her work, but she did add her signature on the back (not pictured) and apparently these words (on the second image). i found it funny, cute, and clever, but it also made me sigh a little.

while the holidays are meant to be a time of joy and reconnection, it is important to remember that they are also sad and painful for some. or perhaps a mix of many emotions, both uplifting and sorrowful. tradition and nostalgia can cut both ways.

this picture is a bit of nostalgia. i don't know who the artist is or if it was mass produced. it is one of the few things i have from my childhood, growing up with my grandparents. it was one piece in a larger set, the rest of which have been lost to the ages. it takes me back to a simpler time, but the gentle contradiction is that this time was also not particularly simple and had its own challenges.

i often saw (and see) myself as the child in this picture. at peace, in awe of the woods. also alone, vaguely lost, isolated. mostly, though, just being present in the moment. i do my best to hold onto that above all.

check in on your friends. your family members. colleagues. even your enemies. you never know what someone is going through. the brave faces and the psychological masks we all wear from time to time may feel very tight and blistering, especially during this season. by @allpossiblelight

i haven't had much that i've wanted to share recently, but since this is a thing right now, it seemed innocuous and simple enough to participate.

this is based on my all-time spotify listens. the one based upon my last six months of listening somehow included me, and i felt a bit embarrassed about "creating" a festival and being in the lineup. (i come up occasionally in my daily mixes but i usually skip myself.) that said, the six month one was probably a little more accurate, especially since some of these song plays are based on a specific purpose outside of my own direct enjoyment (e.g. lullabies) but i think this one works just fine. by @allpossiblelight
