I hope you all aren't tired of Cassandra yet! . I am so, so thrilled to say that a photo from my Cass shoot ended up in @cosplayrealmmagazine's D&D issue this month! We had such perfect weather for this shoot--it even started snowing again right in the middle of it. Cass is one of my favorite projects I've yet worked on, and this whole thing felt like a dream. Allura is so special to me. I love her wisdom and wit, her courage in the face of impossible circumstances, and her unceasing commitment to justice over the course of all three Exandrian campaigns. Her willingness to be a leader or a supporter as the situation requires. She's what I hope to be on my best days and what I strive toward on my worst. This costume has so much love sewn into every seam, and I hope you've enjoyed seeing her even a fraction as much as I've enjoyed sharing her with you. Time to get a little vulnerable this Monday morning? No time like the present, I guess. Content warning for body image (facial features) discussion below. I was genuinely shocked to find this was one of my immediate standout favorites from this shoot, because I have struggled so much in my adult life with how I felt about my nose. It's never been a feature that I liked on my own face. It always felt too prominent, too visible. I spent years trying (and failing!) to find the right way to tilt my head or exaggerate other features to make it less of a focal point in photos. It's one of the primary features (along with my height) that made me feel like I could never be regarded as "cute" or fit into stereotypical physical "ideals" of femininity. (The nature of which is a whole other set of discussions in itself!) But this photo made me feel really elegant from the first moment I saw it. It might sound weird, but it felt like my nose was a harmonious element of my face rather than something discordant, an unexpected gift from the cosplay experience. I am hugely grateful to @honeyandheatherphoto for her skill and care in not only carrying out my hopes for this photoshoot but taking it above and beyond and allowing for moments like this. And all this is to say I haven't had some miraculous turnabout. How I feel about the way my face looks is still something I struggle with and probably will continue to be. Body positivity and neutrality are concepts that I find much easier to apply to other people than to internalize. 2025! What a weird year! I only finished two cosplays, and you know what? I'm fine with that! I may not have finished a lot this year, but I'm really really proud of what I did accomplish. These are two of the most technically beautiful costumes I've ever made. I got to do a wonderful photoshoot with Allura. I had the most magical interaction with Laura while in wedding Jester and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the live show. Both of these cosplays brought me a lot of joy, and that feels like the most important thing. What will I accomplish in the coming year? Who knows! But it'll be fun to find out. by @allworknocosplay
