It has been a long while since I posted on here... what a crazy, hard, and long couple of years it has been...
I'm sad to post that early last year, we lost one of our pack.
Our Damien. Tonight I was missing him and thought I'd share my post to him from when he passed. If anyone out there is grieving the loss of a pet- know you are not alone.

February 16th was the worst day of my life…
It was the day I had to say goodbye to my baby boy.
Throughout my entire adult life I have never known a time when Damien wasn't by my side.
For the past 13 years he was as constant as my left hand.
He was there when we moved into our first apartment, and every subsequent move since - all 7 of them, across 3 states.
He was there when we got engaged and when we got married.
He was there when Chris enlisted and when he deployed soon after.
He was there for every bad day and good day and every day in between…

My Damien was a force.
He was larger than life in every way.
Anyone who had the privilege of knowing him, knew that he was special.

The day he died the vet said,
"His heart is just as strong as ever, but his brain isn't doing so well."
I didn't need a doctor to tell me that my boy had a lion's heart.
He loved to a capacity that most will never know in a lifetime.
In his 16 years of life Damien made a friend of every soul he came across - person, dog, cat, lizard or bird.
Everyone loved him. You couldn't help but to love him.
And he returned that love so fiercely that you felt lucky just to be able to feel it.

His last year of life was hard.
He was getting older and sicker.
He lost most of his sight and hearing and the arthritis in his back leg made it so he couldn't run or dance like he used to.
But he never lost his spunk.
He was a fighter - and a lover - to the very end.
Last October I had told Chris that even though Damien was mostly blind, there were times when the sun was shining bright, that we would be outside and he would look up at me with those beautiful big brown eyes and walk to me.
I knew in my heart he recognized me.
"Those are the times I will always remember." I had said.
And I meant it.
Even now as I write this, I know that every bad day, (1/2) by @almonte_pack
