for the first volume of our concept kitchen series, @karimrfouad & @seanybonbon created a menu around one seasonal ingredient: figs. in sylvia plath’s fig tree analogy (from “the bell jar”), her protagonist, esther, describes looking up at an old fig tree and seeing all the possibilities for what she could be in each fig. wife, mother, artist, lawyer, poet. the problem is, she can’t pick which one she wants, so she instead watches them all fall off the branch and rot. each of our guests were the complete antithesis of that idea. every person at this table is inspired by a wide range of interests and ideas, so we invited them to eat ALL the figs. :)in keeping with the theme of exploration and play, @almost_adam designed a custom 3D printed keychain for every guest, in response to the question: “what tiny object would your 8-year-old self be obsessed with?”later, we surprised everyone with the actual items they mentioned in their response :) we saw tamagotchis, glow in the dark stars, cameras, legos, mermaids, and so much more. we spent the evening eating, drinking, playing, and getting to know each other through our most fundamental childhood dreams and curiosities. the biggest ever thank you to @fwb.help @laeliatequila &, of course, to @almost_adam for making this possible and reminding us to remember to always keep playing ~ until next time xx📸: @damnnnjam by @almost_adam

Hypothesis: CORRECT. Black imagination is technology. What becomes possible when you create conditions for exploration and self discovery? What does dynamic investment look like? Years ago, Adam Saleh (@almost_adam) described the IBI Fellowship as his “first seed fund.” And now, Complex (@complex) announced the acquisition of Presq (@presq.studio), the company he founded. Adam now joins Complex as Creative Technologist! We share this with pride, yes, but also with clarity.This is what happens when Black imagination is met with mentorship, trust, and catalytic support at the right moment. Adam once said the most important thing he received from the fellowship was mentorship, and that IBI was “actually an accelerator for your career.” We do not only honor what culture becomes once the world can see it.We work to recognize it while it is still forming.Congratulations, Adam. Design is a sport..I left the Cal track team in the middle of the pandemic, unsure of the forces that would motivate me to maintain my health in the future. .Time lapsed and a 4 year long conversation with @drfiance and @thehousefund manifested into the inception of @presq.studio .6 months into development I had an SI joint injury— my PT journey began with @dr.dsiazon_dpt and @dr.dangpt. A year and countless sessions later, I’ve finally been able to reconnect with health and sport as a feature defining the poise and discipline required to work with a powerful team and maintain a healthy vision..Today I’m grateful for the values I gained as a Cal athlete, and moreover— the knowledge that my health as a founder reflects in the depth of our designs. .Design is a sport. 🌱.Shot by : @godly by @almost_adam
