Kilo is the art of keenly oberving the world around us. It allowed our kūpuna to become deeply connected with our natural world, to navigate across the expansive ocean, predict weather patterns and adjust accordingly, develop complex agriculture and aquaculture systems, and live a life that ensured the sacred balance between kānaka and ʻāina, and the sustainability of our natural resources. In today’s world, many of us are asking ourselves, how can we take the small steps away from our modern technology towards active kilo and connection, and more importantly, how do we raise the next generation to value this knowledge and skill. by @aloha_odb

Our kūpuna had a saying, “He pūkoʻa kani ʻāina” A coral head that hardens and becomes an island.

3 days of pure aloha at the Best of Hawaii Mākeke by Hawaii’s Finest. Our very first big, multi-day event, and we are exhausted but deeply grateful for this experience. It was so humbling to be in the presence of our ppl- the visionaries, the hustlers, the supporters, and the cheerleaders. We are so grateful for everyone that came through our booth and poured into us and spoke life into us and our small (growing) business. From our hoa aloha that came to see us, our vendor neighbors and other business owners that shared gifts, knowledge and encouragement, customers that brought positive vibes and those that just stopped by to talk stories. The aloha was felt on every level. Hū aʻela ka huewai i ka waiwai a ke aloha. Mahalo mahalo mahalo e ko Hawaii💧💧Wishing everyone continued love and success on this huakaʻi. by @aloha_odb

More than just a beautiful flower, hau holds deep significance for poʻe Hawaiʻi. Brought across the moana nui akea by early Polynesian voyagers, the hau served many purposes and appears in a number of traditional moʻolelo. Particularly intriguing to me, is the connection between the hau and 2 of our moʻowahine fishpond guardians of Oʻahu nei, Laniwahine of Loko Ea, Waialua, and Meheanu of Heʻeia. #hawaii #hau #moolelo #history #ola by @aloha_odb
