Humble Administrator's Garden 🇨🇳
.
.
.
An illustration I did of a garden in Suzhou for the recent zine release under the theme "In The Streets of China"! Specifically, this is based on the "Pine Wind Water Building" in the Humble Administrator's Garden in Suzhou. It was a cool project I worked on on-and-off for a few months. It was fun trying to find an interesting, unique place that both felt representative of Chinese culture while also not exocitizing it. I think though I could have found a better place to depict one image of Chinese ambiance, I'm pleased with the energy and representation I ended up with. I'd enjoy visiting one day.

Anyway, check out the rest of the submissions on @streetsofzine 's page! There're some real cool depictions. And thanks to @ju_uuuuuuuuuuuuu for finding and writing the pretty lines of text on the building. :)

My Morning Walk 🐦‍⬛

I've got some early classes that start soon after sunrise, and the walk to those is always a pleasant journey through a landscape utterly empty other than these fun cleaning carts and the massive ravens we've got around here. I love them. It was fun throwing this piece together, noodling at it and calling it done at least 5 separate times. xD It's a nice memory for me now.

This was also partially inspired by @claroxhj 's own awesome cleaning painting. :)

Penguin Scuba Party!! 🐧🤿🐚
-
I’m super pleased to share the newest Penguin Party! The pengus, this time, journey underwater to collect shiny shells… and find a friend doing the same!!

I’ve been working on this on and off for the last month, residually inspired by my swims over the summer. (Also inspired by my favorite @irismuddy painting.) I’ve had the good fortune of seeing many adorable octopi hiding beneath rocks while snorkeling in various warm seas. It’s always so unexpected and exciting.

Honestly, there are so many cool creatures I’ve had the good fortune of getting to see while swimming: sharks, rays, needlefish, starfish, sea cucumbers and some slugs, a couple jellyfish, seals and sea lions, and lots of colorful fish, of course. I wonder what the best such sighting all of you have had is? 🤔

Swipe for close-ups! Hope you enjoy!

Colca Canyon, Peru 🦅⛰️🏞️
-
Latest piece for the Streets of Zine: Peru! This one features Colca Canyon, a tremendous place in the highlands (though the mountains go higher still elsewhere in the country!!). It was fun to experiment with a much more painterly, different style.

Swipe for closeups and a rough estimation of my process.

Travel Memoirs: Paesaggio Perugino 3 🏞️🇮🇹
-
The last of the post-Perugia studies. Not as successful maybe, but I kept trying some new things, like using only hard edged brushes for shape contours for the first one. Still pretty fun. Made for a nice collection of studies.

A final thanks to @tortellini.art for the trip. Glad you’ve enjoyed them!

Travel Memoirs: Paesaggio Perugino 2 🏞️🇮🇹

I didn’t do only 6 of these! Here are more Perugian landscapes. I tried more new things in this batch, changing the lighting/colors more or trying much more complicated scenes (like the garden in 3). Good time!

Thank you @tortellini.art again for the trip. Enjoy!

Travel Memoirs: Paesaggio Perugino 🏞️🇮🇹

Going through my refs, I begun a little series of my recent visit to Perugia. Wonderful landscapes. So hilly! I usually avoid drawing urban scenes or cityscapes, so these also served as a way to become a bit more comfortable with those scenes.

Thank you @tortellini.art for the hospitality and company. :) I’ve been excited for you to see these :P

Travel Memoirs ✈️🗺️🧭

I decided recently to a tually go through my many photos and paint the inspiring places and memories. Nice little extra daily studies where I can, without stakes, practice color, or light, or brushwork, or texturing, or shapes, or simplifying, or anything really. I try to keep them to an hour each, but some are shorter, and some twice as long.

These are Byrne Preserve, my hospital, the National Library or Turkey, and Iznik.

Penguin Corgi Party! 🐧🐶🏐
-
My annual corgi painting for my sister’s birthday 🥰 I’ve come to really enjoy corgis myself over the past few years now. Nothing like painting something a whole lot to come to like it! I do enjoy the penguins even more though! 😝

Scroll to the end for details and process! :)
