🍂 Indigenous Peoples' Day 🍂

Today, we honor and celebrate the histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Indigenous peoples, including Native American, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian communities.

Indigenous Peoples' Day is an opportunity to recognize their resilience, celebrate their enduring cultures, and amplify Indigenous voices. We encourage our members to take time to learn about the Indigenous communities whose lands they live, work, and study on and support efforts to preserve Indigenous cultures and traditions.

Hispanic Heritage Month Sisterhood Feature

This Hispanic Heritage Month, we're proud to celebrate the incredible women who make our sisterhood stronger through their culture, resilience, and passion for STEM.

Daniela Barbosa Surmay

She/Her
Beta Zeta Chapter
Civil Engineering Major & Architectural Studies Minor
Colombian

Why did you join A.O.E.?
"I joined A.O.E. to find community in a passionate group of women in stem who I can relate to and understand the struggles of earning a stem degree as a woman."

How has your experience in A.O.E. Shaped the way you connect with your heritage and/or how has your heritage shaped your experience in the Sorority?
"Being in A.O.E. has made me more comfortable talking about my heritage. The sisterhood of the beta zeta chapter has an immense uplifting energy, and regardless of our diverse ethnicities, we all believe our sisters can achieve their dreams."

What are some things you wish more people knew about what it's like to be a Latina/Hispanic woman or gender non-conforming individual in STEM?
"As a first-generation student, resources about how to navigate through college were slim to none. As a child, I was never encouraged by the world around me to pursue engineering, and there weren't many, if at all, any engineers that looked like me either. In my experience, going to university and deciding to be an engineer meant figuring a lot of the specifics that go into that all on my own."

"Todo es posible! ❤️ AΩE!"
