Our sisterhood is rooted in love, respect, accountability, and service. We choose to uplift one another, lead with integrity, speak up against harmful behavior, and uphold the standards that protect our organization and each other. True leadership means creating an environment where every member feels valued, respected, and supported.

Hazing has no place in our sisterhood. We are committed to fostering a culture where connection is built through shared purpose, positive experiences, and genuine care for one another.

On Tuesday, August 4th, Soror Lena Grant had the opportunity to volunteer with WHUT–Howard University Television’s community outreach summer programming alongside her mother, Soror Gmelyn Joe of the Alpha Beta Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®.

During the PBS KIDS Super Why! themed experience for children ages 2–8, Soror Lena facilitated interactive reading sessions, puppet crafting, and graphic novel creation. Through these engaging activities, she helped young learners strengthen their foundational literacy skills while encouraging creativity, self-expression, and early visual storytelling. 📚✨

The Always Original Alpha Omicron Chapter is proud to celebrate Soror Lena’s commitment to service and the meaningful impact she continues to make beyond our campus and within the community. 💗💚

From May 18–26, 2026, Soror Kendall Artis had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Tokyo, Japan, where she expanded her global perspective, embraced a new culture, and created memories that will last a lifetime.

During her journey, Soror Kendall explored Tokyo’s iconic Olympic facilities, learning about the history and legacy of the Olympic Games. She also experienced the vibrant energy of Harajuku, Shibuya, and Shinjuku, discovering the city’s unique fashion, culture, cuisine, and unforgettable atmosphere.

Some of her favorite moments included shopping, immersing herself in Japanese traditions, and stepping outside of her comfort zone through meaningful cultural experiences. Opportunities like these remind us that learning extends far beyond the classroom and that travel has the power to broaden perspectives and inspire growth.

📸 The students featured throughout these photos are fellow University of Maryland Eastern Shore students and staff who also participated in this unforgettable study abroad experience alongside Soror Kendall.

The Always Original Alpha Omicron Chapter proudly recognizes Sorors Brooke Chaney and Christ-Love Talabert for their outstanding representation during the HBCU Kings & Queens Conference, held Wednesday, July 15, through Sunday, July 19, in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Soror Brooke Chaney, the 58th Miss University of Maryland Eastern Shore, represented UMES with grace, confidence, poise, and purpose alongside the Royal Court, The Embassy of the Shore. Throughout the conference, she participated in leadership workshops, professional development sessions, royal court activities, networking opportunities, and meaningful conversations with HBCU kings and queens from across the country. She embraced every opportunity to grow as a leader, build lasting connections, and proudly share the legacy, excellence, and Hawk Pride of UMES.

Whether attending official appearances, engaging with fellow student leaders, or participating in conference activities, Soror Chaney carried her crown with humility, elegance, and authenticity. Her warm personality and welcoming spirit left a lasting impression, earning her a nomination for Friendliest Queen. This recognition reflected the kindness, positivity, and genuine character she displayed throughout the week, demonstrating that true royalty is not only shown through a title, but through service, leadership, and the way others are made to feel. 👑

Behind every unforgettable moment was Soror Christ-Love Talabert, who served as the Royal Court’s content creator and behind-the-scenes storyteller. From capturing professional photographs and videos to documenting candid moments, official appearances, and conference highlights, she worked diligently to ensure Soror Chaney and the entire Embassy of the Shore were represented with excellence.

Soror Talabert helped bring the Royal Court’s New Orleans experience to life. Her work allowed others to follow their journey while showcasing the elegance, leadership, and unity of The Embassy of the Shore.

We are incredibly proud of both Sorors for representing themselves, their chapter, and UMES with class, sisterhood, purpose, and excellence. 🩷💚
