Symptoms of Perimenopause can vary between women.

Why?

Because our foundations of genetics, food, lifestyle and even toxin exposure are all different.

But the most common toxins can be the worst offenders.

Everyday exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (BPA, phthalates, pesticides, flame retardants, etc.) can interfere with hormone receptors, increase inflammation, burden the liver and gut detox pathways and amplify the effects of rouge estrogen.

All leading to symptoms that look a lot like Peri!

Overtime, you may notice these issues developing into greater struggles like irregular/heavy cycles, hot flashes, night sweats, fatigue, brain fog, mood swings, weight gain, poor sleep, skin issues, headaches and more…

Sound familiar?

It may be Peri but also…

You may be suffering from toxin-overload.

And if you’re already in Peri, these symptoms may be reduced by shifts in diet, lifestyle, movement, and a reduction in toxin exposure.

By identifying where the common toxins exist in your life, you can begin testing and tracking to see which ones are the greatest culprit.

One by one, removing anything that no longer serves you or your family…

You can restore your health.

The wealthy person dreams of many things. The sick person, only one.

When something is ‘off’ in the body, we have 2 choices:

1. To immediately numb the symptom and go about our life as though nothing is wrong.

2. To listen, address and work to resolve the state of dis-order.

Current society will have us believing that, as long as everything SEEMS perfect on the surface (ie: no symptoms), that everything is ‘fine.’

But true healing?

That takes attention. And intention. And discipline.

The kind that forges us into a new version of ourselves; free of the struggle.

And as we all know, if we suppress the symptoms for long enough, they WILL knock us down. Once that happens, we won’t have the luxury of procrastination.

Too foggy to connect to family. You chug an energy drink and keep going.

Running on fumes to the point of exhaustion. You down a quad shot latte loaded with sugar to spike your adrenaline to keep going.

And when your body can’t take it anymore…you miss days of work. Cancel plans. Miss out on the life you said you wanted.

But what if you approached health through a different lens? One of progress not surface-level perfection?

Healing can be messy. Often strange. So it’s best to listen and learn rather than suppress.

Asking questions like:

Why does this pattern keep coming up after you’ve done the work?

Why does this symptom keep coming up when you’re eating all the right foods?

Why are you still suffering when you’re taking all the right supplements?

Progress means one…step…at…a…time. Tracking your wins, calibrating your efforts.

With room to grow, stumble, fall, get back up, dust yourself off and grow again.

This is the part of life that gives meaning and purpose to your legacy when you choose to pass down health instead of disease.

Because the younger generations deserve more than just the status quo. Healer, heal thyself so that you can heal the tribe.

Our next cohort begins August 3rd. You in?

Perimenopause doesn’t just show up in your cycle or energy levels.

It can show up right on your face.

Many women notice their skin and facial features changing in ways that feel sudden and confusing. Even before other classic symptoms appear.

And in a world of injections and numbing agents, we have lost our ability to read the body’s cues by way of a changing face.

Swipe through to see the most common ways peri shows up in the face + what you can do to support your skin from the inside out.

Don’t assume you’re not aging “badly.”

Acknowledge that your hormones are shifting, and your skin is responding to those changes.

There are a great many things you can do to lift, lighten and tighten naturally. From diet to fascia release.

Save this for later and tag a friend who’s noticing the same changes.

There are more than 50 known symptoms that may be linked to perimenopause.

And many of these are not JUST from the hormonal changes.

In fact, nutrient deficiency, on all accounts, can make everything feel harder.

But when it comes to low magnesium, you may notice symptoms like sleep disruption, anxiety, muscle cramps, restless legs, fatigue, mood swings, and even blood sugar instability.

This isn’t a time for cursing your body. Your body isn’t failing you.

It IS a time for slowing down long enough to listen and adapt.

Why? Because magnesium supports some of your most important processes:

• Calm nervous system
• Muscle relaxation
• Stable mood
• Blood sugar balance
• Energy production
• Hormone metabolism

To boost your levels naturally, try foods first like: avocado, leafy greens, pumpkin seeds, bone broth, dark chocolate, and fatty fish

If your food is already dialed in and you suspect that you may still be low, magnesium glycinate or threonate are known to be gentle and well-absorbed. Start low (200–400mg elemental magnesium at night) and pair with food.

If you’re waking at 3am, feeling wired but tired, or dealing with leg cramps…magnesium could be a game-changer.

Have you tried increasing magnesium? What helped most? Drop your experience below 👇

I get this question a lot.

Social media makes the topic seem to simple but it never tells the FULL story. Not everyone needs to cleanse and not everyone needs the same protocol.

So today, I’m going to help you make a more informed choice.

Cleanses are traditionally used to support the body in working more efficiently. NOT to be used as a quick fix for a greater issue…

Like poor diet, lack of movement, excess alcohol consumption, etc.

And they should NEVER be used without properly preparing the body with nutrients, hydration and lymphatic support. Even mindset and emotional resilience are impacted by a cleanse!

Why?

Because the body is a highly intelligent, highly integrated system of detox pathways.

When one is clogged or stagnant, best believe they ALL need help.

This is why you might experience severe side effects from cleansing like migraines, body aches, flu-like symptoms and even aggression.

When you FORCE your body to cleanse, and your pathways aren’t all functioning, or at least cleared, you may create worse clogs in areas that are already struggling.

And in some cases, this leads to what we call a “Healing Crisis.” Knocking you flat on your ass with an immune overload. It’s NOT pretty and takes a lot of work to recover from.

I’ve had more clients sign up for coaching with me this year after landing themselves in the hospital from a poorly structured cleanse than EVER before. And I’ve been coaching for more than 2 decades now.

They’ve all been trying the latest cleanse or detox protocol without knowing what they were signing up for. So now, instead of helping them go from baseline to optimal, I’ve had to work with them to recover from the healing crisis and get back to baseline.

It’s like kicking up dust in a place that’s been dirty for years…you have no CLUE what you’ll find and you didn’t come with the right equipment to handle it.

If you’ve been considering a cleanse, I’ve created a Guide with 5 specific things to consider BEFORE choosing in. Comment GUIDE or click the link in bio to get it for FREE.

You deserve the path that’s right for YOU. Not some one-size-fits-all empty promise.

There’s a really fuzzy part of midlife that no one warned me about.

I can’t blame them. My elders were mostly single-moms, working moms, and Type A women who were too busy with work to really slow down and process what it all meant at the time.

They were all operating in survival mode because of how they were raised.

But with that comes a lot of confusion and regret. A lot of sadness and often misplaced blame.

“I wish someone would have told me,” they all say. So it’s not JUST me feeling this way?!

Then, whose job was it to be the wisdom keeper if they too were not informed?

It’s ours. Those of us who are awake enough to SEE that something’s got to give.

It’s up to US to face the patterns head-on and to challenge what IS as “all there is.”

In my group coaching program, I’ll show you how to identity the unconscious patterns in your family that keep you stuck, unwell, and feeling weighed down. And to be the Elder your lineage needs to support a drastic shift.

Just because they ran on fumes, doesn’t mean you have to.

Don’t you think it’s time we build a legacy based on wellness instead of generational struggle?

If not for you, do it for them. We start August 3rd.

Seed Cycling is meant to provide the ‘right’ nutrients at specific times of the month to help the body stay in balance. And it’s mostly geared toward estrogen balance. But women deal with progesterone and testosterone fluctuations too. Especially we they draw closer to perimenopause.

In many cases, these fluctuations are influenced by overall nutrient intake. Not the seeds themselves. So it’s important for us to know what support we really need and to choose the foods that are right for us.

Keep in mind, hormone balance is not about quick fixes or suppressing symptoms. Though many supplements and even holistic treatments are marketed as such. Seed Cycling is one of these wellness trends aimed at women who are struggling to regulate their hormones.

True balance is about supporting your body’s natural terrain through nourishment, observation, and informed choices. Giving the body the ‘tools’ it needs to survive and thrive through food, lifestyle, habit, and mindfulness.

Suffice it to say, the science on Seed Cycling isn’t YET clear. Seeds themselves have not been tested for efficacy in these cases and there’s no empirical evidence that shows seeds are ‘the’ solution.

What is clear is the connection between nutrient-dense foods and hormonal balance; whole foods comprised of essential anti-oxidants, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals have been proven to support the body’s stability and harmony.

Because most people are consuming a diet low in these nutrients, simply adding in, and cycling, seeds can spark a noticeable difference. But not in all cases.

Why? Because, unlike a medication, seeds are not a drug and don’t directly treat the symptoms.

If your diet is already lacking in diversity and whole food items, you’ll need to address that overall rather than just adding in some seeds each day. And thankfully, the nutrients in seeds can be accessed in other foods like legumes, olive oil, shellfish, beef/lamb, avocado, salmon/sardines, walnuts and egg yolks. This is more aligned with the diet I tend to recommend to my clients.

As with all trends, context matters. Have you tried it? #seedcycling #perimenopause #estrogenfree by @alphazensociety

Perimenopause is a time of transformation.

How you experience that transformation is up to you.

Many uncomfortable symptoms can be mitigated with diet and lifestyle habits, allowing room to consider if HRT may or may not be needed.

If you’re not yet in the PERI window, or are starting to feel the strange changes that come along with it, it’s important to give yourself a LOT of compassion. But also, hold yourself accountable and capable to make changes that can support your journey in the best possible way.

Track your symptoms. Notice how food, sleep, mindset, hydration and supplements impact your sensations.

Then, consider your next steps:
1. Self-guided approach
2. Health Coach support for diet and lifestyle changes
3. Speak with your physician about bioidentical hormone replacement

Or any combination of the above.

This transition is a powerful one.

Having a bit more grace, and a lot more nourishment, can really help you along.

If you slowed down long enough to listen, what do you think your body would be trying to tell you?

Do you need more water?

Do you need better rest?

Do you need to more time to breathe?

Or maybe you need a bigger challenge?

Your body uses symptoms to grab your attention. When you learn to listen, you give room for grace to show up.

Your health is a reflection of how willing you are to listen and answer back.

Learning HOW to listen is the challenge.

One day at a time.

Babe, you’ve been running on fumes for far too long.
Even if you THINK you’re hiding it well, your loved ones feel it.
You want to be the best for them but you’re robbing them of truly knowing the fullness of who YOU are.
Now you’re overcommitted, stressed, and thinking about how much more you can sacrifice to make sure everyone else is happy.
Wouldn’t it feel great to finally know peace?
To feel empowered by goals instead of overwhelmed by them?
To feel confident in setting boundaries and asking for support?
You never know who’s watching you.
Be the role model THEY need.
Our next cohort begins August 3rd.

I used to get in fights with my college nutrition teachers. I felt something in my gut that they didn’t want me to question.

I asked TOO many questions that pushed back against their narrative and frankly, they weren’t having it.

Looking back, I realize they were only teaching what they were told to believe.

They weren’t taught to question the science.

But I did.

It would take a couple of years for me to really sort out what my intuition was telling me, break my own cycle of yo-yo dieting, and figure out why the standard nutrition protocols were failing me.

The one-size-fits-all approach is wrong. In every way.

Once I found the solution, I became a coach.

Now, for more than 2 decades, I’ve been showing clients how to dial in their diet, mindset and lifestyle….ultimately taking control of their health.

But there’s ONE thing in this industry that plagues me more and more each day…

We have only scratched the surface on our understanding of how nutrition impacts the body.

I’ve been saying for years that we are in a health renaissance and I’m here for it!

I fought with my teachers at a time where low-fat was THE way. And now, I’m seeing better results coming with a high fat diet.

Science that once blamed fat and meat for disease is now flipping on its head to show it’s been the processed carbs all along.

This is why we MUST question the science.

All of it.

Because none of it is settled, nor will it be for a long, long time.

So rather than fight about whose perspective is right, we SHOULD be asking what’s right for the individual and how we can support them in making the right changes.

This is what the future will demand of us. And it’s a future I am thoroughly excited about.

Never a dull moment in this work. #holisticnutrition #questionthenarrative #scienceisneversettled by @alphazensociety
