A work-in-progress Minecraft house, by Alpine1 (me). I got a nail in the tire of my motorbike while filming around West Vancouver for inspiration for this house, thankfully the bike is fixed now. Everything, including the real-life exploration (and getting stuck on the side of the road up in the mountains) will be included.

Minecraft city building has been revolutionized by long-distance viewing mods like Distant Horizons and Voxy. It has genuinely changed the way we plan our cities, since we can see the entire map without having to install third-party Java server plugins like Dynmap (very laggy!).

It also makes for really cool screenshots, like these views of our City of Sequoia and the beautiful ships built by the one and only MiG31.

The two photos are angled north, looking towards the real-life West Vancouver, with the purple house lots seen in the first picture. The second picture features the boundary of North Vancouver and West Vancouver, with Stanley Park and Prospect Point poking out on the right side.

This terrain uses Metro Vancouver’s topographic GIS data converted to Minecraft, but scaled down. Check out my recent posts for an in-depth Q&A about this terrain!

Inspired by the Frank Stanzl building in Vancouver, this #minecraft building is a collaboration between @tacosquad.mc and @alpine.builds - taking existing forms and inspiring a brutalist, borderline cyberpunk tower. This building acts as the centrepiece for the surrounding neighbourhood of Fairview in the Minecraft City of Sequoia.

Observing the building’s right side on slide 7, the road slope is significantly steeper than expected, leaving a gap between the road and the foundation. This discrepancy occurred when new terrain was implemented after the building was constructed with much steeper slopes than previous.

Given this project is a work-in-progress, a major challenge will be designing a solution to connect the foundation of the tower to the ground, without disrupting the overall aesthetics or functionality. The initial intention was to create an entrance to an underground parkade along the slope, but the configuration may change to accommodate the slope as needed.

Stay tuned. Still lots of work to do.

Based on Vancouver’s Iron Workers Memorial Bridge, @jeffg_809 has created a #minecraft version custom-built for the “City of Sequoia”. The City uses Vancouver’s real-life terrain but scaled down, so the actual location has been slightly modified and put on an angle to better fit into the city’s road network.
