We are so thrilled that Mayor Karen Bass, Congresswoman Nanette Barragán, Councilmember Tim McOsker and the Port of LA Executive Director Gene Seroka joined us for the official ribbon-cutting and grand opening for our Center for Innovation at Berth 58 -- a huge milestone for AltaSea at the Port of LA. This state-of-the-art facility will be a hub for marine research, sustainable tech, and ocean innovation.

And announced this week, May 29th is also now "AltaSea Blue Economy Day" in LA, emphasizing our commitment to sustainable ocean industries. The Center will drive economic growth, job creation, and advancements in marine science.

Thank you to Senator Alex Padilla, Congresswoman Barragán, Mayor Bass Councilmember McOsker, and the Port of Los Angeles, as well as Asm. Mike Gipson and State Senator Steven Bradford, for making this possible and for all the support you have shown AltaSea throughout the years.

Together, we're forging a sustainable and innovative future. Our future is blue!

We’ve got power!

It was an honor to have former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger help us plug in the final panels of our 4-acre solar array!

We’re so happy he joined us for the celebration of another historic milestone in AltaSea’s history.

The installation will provide enough energy to power AltaSea’s 35-acre campus, sending its excess energy to the grid. The energy generated from the panels is enough to power 700 homes!

I spend a lot of time talking about the future of food and I believe the ocean is a big part of that conversation.

That's one of the reasons I'm proud to serve on the Board of @AltaSea at the Port of Los Angeles and why I'm excited to be back for Blue Hour.

This event brings together chefs, innovators, scientists, and entrepreneurs who are reimagining what's possible through the Blue Economy from sustainable seafood and aquaculture to clean energy and ocean technology.

I'll be taking the stage for a live cooking demonstration inspired by the incredible potential of our oceans, and I hope you'll join me for an evening of great food, meaningful conversations, and a chance to support the next generation of ocean innovation.

This week, AltaSea wrapped up another incredible summer of our Ocean STEM Mentorship Program.

Over the past five weeks, 30 high school students from across Los Angeles County came together to tackle some of the ocean's most pressing challenges.

Working in small teams alongside AltaSea's education staff, interns, volunteers, and campus partners, they designed and built innovative solutions addressing ocean salinity, eutrophication, pollution, and sustainable energy using real tools and equipment available at AltaSea.

The most common takeaway from every team? They wanted more time. In just five weeks, these young innovators accomplished so much—and with just a couple of additional weeks, their ideas and prototypes could go even further.

These students represent the future of the Blue Economy, and your support helps make opportunities like this possible.

It has been a busy week at AltaSea—and we wouldn't have it any other way.

This week, more than 400 students walked through our campus, learning, exploring, and preparing for future careers. From hands-on workforce training to mentorship and internship opportunities, AltaSea was buzzing with activity and inspiration.

Our partner and tenant, Dynamic Education, welcomed students into programs focused on skilled trades such as welding, framing, and plumbing—equipping the next generation with practical skills that lead to meaningful careers.

We also kicked off our Summer Mentorship Program, connecting young people with professionals and leaders who can help guide their educational and career journeys. And we're excited to welcome our newest group of summer interns, who are already getting to work across our campus and programs.

These moments reflect what AltaSea is all about: creating pathways to opportunity, fostering innovation, and investing in the next generation of leaders, makers, and problem-solvers.
