Hi, I’m Jess. Alter Ego represents your future you. The vibe is built on natural, tonal, botanical color: think earthy tones, gold accents, vintage edge. My signature move is one-of-a-kind, hand-dyed felts I make myself using native plants I forage, from botanicals like eucalyptus, avocado skins, manzanita, walnuts, indigo, laurel sumac. If you’re new here — hello. I’m Jess. I’m hatter and the founder of Alter Ego Atelier, a luxury hat studio in Ventura, California, a few blocks from the Pacific. I make hats by hand from natural materials — fur felt, premium straw, botanical dyes from plants I forage and make. Each hat takes weeks to make. Each hat is made once. I came to this work the long way around. I am naturally private, an observer more than a performer. I believe the most powerful things are built slowly and quietly. Alter Ego is the clearest expression of that belief I have ever made. Here you will find the hats — limited editions that sell out and don’t return, private commissions shaped entirely to you, and occasionally a glimpse into the atelier where all of it begins. You will not find trends here, or noise, or anything made in a hurry. If you have been here for a while — thank you. The brand has changed. I have changed.
