Facts about the Nürburgring @nuerburgring

1. Two Main Layouts
	•	Nordschleife (“North Loop”) – ~20.8 km (12.9 mi), the original and legendary loop through the Eifel forest. Known as “The Green Hell”, a name given by Jackie Stewart due to its difficulty and danger.
	•	Grand Prix Strecke – ~5.1 km (3.2 mi), built in 1984 to meet modern F1 safety standards. It’s the track used for most professional events today, including the Nürburgring 24 Hours and F1 (when it visits).

2. Infamously Challenging
	•	Over 170 turns on the Nordschleife, extreme elevation changes (up to 300 meters), and constantly shifting weather make it one of the most difficult and dangerous tracks in the world.

3. A Public Toll Road
	•	When not used for racing, anyone can drive a lap of the Nordschleife (about €25-30 per lap) with a regular vehicle—motorcycles, vans, even rental cars!

4. Record Times
	•	Fastest production car lap (Nordschleife): Mercedes-AMG One – 6:35.183 (2022)
	•	Fastest official race car lap: Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo – 5:19.546 (2018)

5. Formula 1 History
	•	F1 raced on the full Nordschleife until 1976, when Niki Lauda’s near-fatal crash marked the end of its F1 era.
	•	The Grand Prix track brought F1 back in 1984. Recent races there include the 2020 Eifel Grand Prix during COVID-era schedule changes.

6. Testing Ground for Cars
	•	Almost every major car manufacturer tests performance vehicles at the Nürburgring. A car’s “Ring time” has become a bragging right in the auto industry.

7. A Village Track
	•	The track weaves around the village of Nürburg, with the medieval Nürburg Castle still visible from the circuit.

[Ocaso Underground Festival 2025] @ocasofestival

[rays]

“Batomorphi” is a scientific group (or clade) of cartilaginous fish that refers mainly to rays. These animals are closely related to sharks but have flattened bodies and wing-like pectoral fins, which they use to glide through the water.

• Certain species like the torpedo ray can generate electric shocks up to 220 volts, enough to stun prey—or a diver who gets too close.

• Mantas are not just big—they’re highly intelligent. They show signs of memory, learning, and even curiosity about divers.

• Rays surf waves primarily for fun, mobility, and possibly communication or mating displays.

[ #earthday ]

earth’s fun facts:

1. Earth isn’t a perfect sphere. It’s slightly squished at the poles and bulges at the equator. So technically… you’re taller at the poles!

2. The planet hums. Scientists discovered Earth produces a constant low-frequency sound—completely undetectable to humans. The Earth literally has a soundtrack.

3. More than 95% of the ocean remains unexplored.
We’ve mapped more of Mars than our own sea floors.

4. Mount Everest is tall, but Mount Chimborazo in Ecuador is actually closer to space—thanks to Earth’s equatorial bulge.
Sometimes, greatness is about where you stand.

5. There’s a spot in the Pacific Ocean called Point Nemo—the farthest place from any land.
The closest people are usually astronauts in orbit. taken in Planet Earth by @altius.cr
